Munich. After an exciting, increasingly windy and
therefore challenging Saturday at Golfclub München Eichenried,
Austria’s Bernd Wiesberger (-5 for the day) and Michael Hollick from
South Africa (-3 for the day) have taken the lead with a total score
of 13 under par. One stroke behind is Mexican Carlos Ortiz (-2 for the
day). Local hero Thomas Rosenmüller made the biggest leap forward on
Moving Day, climbing 46 places after carding the best round of the day
(-7) at his home club; he now shares fourth place with South African
Hennie Du Plessis (both -11). The Munich-born player therefore has
every chance of becoming only the second German winner in the long
history of the BMW International Open, following Martin Kaymer (2008).
The thrilling battle to decide the 37th champion of Germany’s most prestigious golf tournament will follow an adjusted schedule tomorrow, Sunday. Due to a local thunderstorm warning for the afternoon, play will commence from 8.10 am to 10.00 am in groups of three from Tee 1 and Tee 10. The current leaders, Wiesberger, Hollick and Ortiz, will tee off at 10.00 am on the first tee. The final round is expected to finish around 3 pm. The tournament grounds will be open from 7 am.

Bernd Wiesberger: “The BMW International Open is a fantastic tournament for us. The whole team takes excellent care of us players, which is why everyone includes it in their tournament calendars – and as a result, the field is always superb. Consequently, this tournament has produced many great champions in the past. It would be nice if I could join them. But there are still 18 holes to play. It was tricky today: it was a bit windy, the course was a bit drier and the greens were firmer than on the first two days. The pin positions were also quite challenging. So it was quite an interesting day. I hit some good shots and made some good putts, both for birdies and pars on the back nine. In that respect, I’m very happy with my performance today. I’m looking forward to standing on the first tee tomorrow, hopefully with plenty of support.”
Thomas Rosenmüller: “I think it’s absolutely brilliant to see so many children here again. I still remember the feeling of being here as a child back then. When Martin (Kaymer) won in 2008, I was one of the kids standing out there, desperate for an autograph and delighted whenever players handed out balls or signed them. Now I get to give a little bit of that back. There were an absolutely huge number of spectators today, especially during our German flight with Freddy. I can’t remember the last time I saw so many spectators. It’s unbelievable. It’s just brilliant to be here.”

EAGLES FOR EDUCATION.
So far, the pros have scored 49 eagles.
Once again this year, the BMW Group is collaborating with the Philipp Lahm Foundation for Sport and Education through its EAGLES FOR EDUCATION initiative as part of the BMW International Open. The BMW Group is supporting the foundation in organising the Philipp Lahm Summer Camps with a donation of 1,000 euros for every eagle scored, as well as providing on-site support through BMW ambassadors. “Together with the BMW Group, we are working to empower children for the future and for their lives. Children have their whole lives ahead of them – and they are our future,” said Lahm. “Our aim is to provide them with support in three areas: physical activity, healthy eating and personal development.”
Since 2023, through EAGLES FOR EDUCATION, the BMW Group has been using numerous BMW tournaments around the globe to fulfil its responsibilities as a corporate citizen and to contribute to solutions for societal challenges. The focus is on educating and empowering children and young people. The BMW Group is convinced that education is the key to a self-determined future for young people and a cornerstone for social cohesion.
2026 Hole-in-One Award – The new BMW X5 M60e xDrive.
No player has yet managed a hole-in-one on the 17th this
year, so the Hole-in-One Award is still up for grabs: the new BMW X5
M60e xDrive, a plug-in hybrid with BMW Motorsport DNA. The new BMW X5
celebrated its world premiere on Tuesday at the BMW Group Plant
Spartanburg (USA) and is being presented to the German public for the
first time at the BMW International Open.
The new BMW X5 adds another chapter to its story of success. The fifth generation of the BMW X5 impresses with technical innovations, a stunning new design and the integration of future-oriented technologies from the Neue Klasse. This underlines its exceptional status and reinforces its leading position in a segment that it originally established.
