Paris (FRA) hosts the eighth round of ABB FIA Formula E Championship season 4 on Saturday, 28th of April. BMW works drivers António Félix da Costa (POR) and Tom Blomqvist (GBR) will aim for a points-scoring Paris ePrix after difficult outings in the last two races. Last week BMW Motorsport continued its development of the new BMW iFE.18 with a test at Calafat (ESP).
The weekend featured the first endurance highlight of the year, namely the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans (FRA). The FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) classic ended with a podium for the BMW S 1000 RR. After 24 hours of racing, the #13 RR, run by the Wepol Racing by Penz13.com team, came home third.

BMW Motorsport continued its development of the new BMW iFE.18 with a test at Calafat (ESP) this week. The car is equipped with a drivetrain developed solely by BMW and will compete in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in Season 5 when BMW joins the first series for fully-electric racing cars as an official manufacturer. Bruno Spengler (CAN) was at the wheel of the BMW iFE.18 at the 3.250-kilometre circuit, which is located on the Mediterranean coast.
ROWE Racing is approaching the start of the 2018 GT season in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup. The team will compete in the season’s five races with two BMW M6 GT3s and a strong BMW driver line-up. The 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (BEL) promises to be the highlight of the year.
BMW i and the ABB FIA Formula E Championship are stepping up their close cooperation: In addition to the commitment as “Official Vehicle Partner”, which has been in place since the inaugural Formula E season, BMW i will also present the race in Berlin (GER) as title sponsor in the coming years. The new involvement kicks off with the 2018 FIA Formula E BMW i Berlin E-PRIX on 19th May.
The weekend saw the FIM Superstock 1000 European Championship get underway with a one-two victory for BMW: Markus Reiterberger won ahead of second-placed Roberto Tamburini. In the British Superbike Championship, Michael Laverty finished in third on the podium in the Superbike class, while Keith Farmer and Chrissy Rouse each secured a second place in the Superstock class. And at the opener of MotoAmerica 2018, BMW rider Travis Wyman won the Superstock race.
• Jakub ‘Kuba’ Przygonski and co-driver Tom Colsoul to go for the win at Qatar Cross Country Rally in a MINI John Cooper Works Rally. • Qatar Cross Country Rally is the fourth round of the FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup and the third straight desert race. • Rally competitors to face 1970.65km of intense heat across varied terrain, of which 1395.24km are off-road special sections.
The BMW teams successfully completed the final endurance test ahead of the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring (GER) on 12th/13th May. In the six-hour qualifying race, the best-placed BMW car was the #99 BMW M6 GT3 of ROWE Racing which finished in second place. The two BMW WEC drivers Martin Tomczyk (GER) and Nick Catsburg (NED) were at the wheel.
With a fifth place in the GTLM class, the #24 BMW M8 GTE of John Edwards (USA) and Jesse Krohn (FIN) gifted BMW Team RLL a conciliatory result in the third race of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
BMW works driver Félix da Costa (POR) put in an impressive recovery performance in the seventh race of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in Rome (ITA). Watched by Klaus Fröhlich, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Development and BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt, the MS&AD Andretti Formula E team Portuguese driver fought his way up through the field after starting from last place on the grid and reached the top-ten after his pit stop.
The DTM returned to the Hockenheimring (GER) this week for the first time since the grand finale of the 2017 season: The six BMW drivers and their rivals were back at the 4.574-kilometre from Monday to Thursday for an official test. In total, they completed more than 1,500 laps and 7,000 kilometres.
BMW is once again represented with a strong contingent at this year’s Nürburgring 24 Hours (GER). The majority of those alternating at the wheel of the two BMW M6 GT3s fielded by ROWE Racing, with works support from BMW Motorsport, will be drivers from the GT works programmes in the FIA World Endurance Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. A total of five BMW M6 GT3s will line up in the “Green Hell”.
The ABB FIA Formula E Championship heads to Europe this Saturday, 14th April, for the first Rome (ITA) E-Prix. BMW works drivers António Félix da Costa (POR) and Tom Blomqvist (GBR) return to the cockpits of the MS&AD Andretti cars. Blomqvist was behind the wheel of the BMW iFE.18 in Maisach (GER) last Tuesday and completed the roll-out for the car, which BMW will be using for the works entry in Season 5 of Formula E.
Following the two longest races of the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Daytona (USA) and Sebring (USA), BMW Team RLL heads to Long Beach (USA) for the season’s shortest race with a length of 100 minutes.
“BMW iFE.18 – TechLab for BMW iNEXT”: This tag-line was prominently featured on the new BMW i Motorsport race car for the ABB FIA Formula E Championship. This car completed its historic first appearance on the BMW and MINI Driving Academy site in Maisach, near Munich (GER). It was powered by the completely new BMW drivetrain, which was created specifically for the special challenges of motor racing.
The 30th BMW International Open boasts a top-quality field of competitors. Martin Kaymer (GER) and Sergio García (ESP) have already confirmed their participation to mark the anniversary of the tournament and they will be joined by another top-class Major winner, Ernie Els (RSA).
BMW has been organising the BMW International Open since 1989 – a record for the European Tour. This success story has been going strong for three decades and will continue until 2022. As of the 31st edition in 2019, the iconic tournament will take place at the Golfclub München Eichenried.
