Win number three of the season and the lead in the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy for Lussiana – Wins in Northern Ireland and a podium in South Africa.

Munich (DE), 29th July 2015. Last weekend around the globe the privateer BMW Motorrad riders have been successful once again. Matthieu Lussiana (FR) re-took the lead in the 2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy by claiming his third win of the season in the Moto 1000 GP in Brazil. At the second round of the FIM Endurance World Championship, the prestigious “Suzuka 8 Hours”, the BMW teams impressed with strong outings. In the South African SuperGP Champions Trophy, Nicholas Kershaw (ZA) finished third on his BMW S 1000 RR, while BMW privateers Guy Martin (GB) and Michael Dunlop (GB) took the wins in the Superbike events at the Armoy Road Races in Northern Ireland.

2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy.

A new leader week in, week out: The battle for the top in the 2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy continues to be exciting. Matthieu Lussiana (FR) is back in first position after claiming his third win of the season in the Brazilian Moto 1000 GP (MT1GP STK GP). Lussiana has collected 254.07 Race Trophy points so far. Roland Resch (AT), who had taken the lead last week with a win and a second place in the races of the Alpe Adria Road Racing Championship (AARR SBK), is now second in the Race Trophy rankings with 241.33 points. Currently third is Markus Reiterberger (DE / IDM SBK) with 222.38 points. Reiterberger will try to regain the lead this coming weekend, when the next races of the SUPERBIKE*IDM will be held. Resch will be in action again in the AARR in two weeks’ time, with the chance to collect further points.

FIM Endurance World Championship in Suzuka, Japan.

The prestigious “Suzuka 8 Hours” marked the second round of the 2015 FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) last weekend. An impressive number of 70 bikes lined up on the grid. The permanent EWC teams only formed a part of the field. In striving for the win at this endurance classic, the Japanese manufacturers once more entered full works teams with strong and prominent riders. In addition, numerous other Japanese teams made guest appearances in this EWC round.

BMW MOTORRAD France Team Penz13.com of former German racer Rico Penzkofer took part for the first time in the “Suzuka 8 Hours” and impressed on its debut with a strong performance. Riders Markus Reiterberger (DE), Tommy Bridewell (GB) and Bastien Mackels (BE) were fast in practice and qualifying on their #13 BMW S 1000 RR. In the race they moved up to sixth, being the best European team and challenging the strong Japanese works teams. Unfortunately, their efforts were not rewarded as they had to retire after suffering technical issues and a crash.

The BMW S 1000 RR still crossed the finish line after eight hours as the best European bike: the Japanese privateer BMW team CONFIA Flex Motorrad39, with riders Daisaku Sakai (JP), Shinya Takeishi (JP) and Takatoshi Onishi (JP), finished 15th. The number 135 RR of Team Tras 135HP, ridden by Yuuta Kodama (JP), Koji Teramoto (JP) and Pedro Vallcaneras (ES), came home 17th. In the Superstock class (EWC STK), Marco Nekvasil (AT), Hayato Takada (JP) and Ryosuke Katahira (JP) finished a strong fourth on their number 48 BMW S 1000 RR from the YMGN with MCRacing team. In the overall result they were 29th.

Moto 1000 GP in Campo Grande, Brazil.

Matthieu Lussiana continues his streak of success in the Brazilian Moto 1000 GP series (MT1GP STK GP). In round four, held at “Autódromo de Campo Grande” (BR), the French BMW Motorrad privateer celebrated his third win of the season on his BMW S 1000 RR. In an exciting race, he beat his rival Diego Pierluigi (AR) in the very last metres, taking victory with an advantage of 0.037 seconds. The BMW Motorrad Petronas Racing rider had a perfect weekend: he also took the bonus points for claiming pole position and setting the fastest lap in the race. In the championship rankings, Lussiana now leads with 101 points. He extended his advantage over his closest rival to 28 points.

Luciano Ribodino (AR) completed the successful outing for BMW Motorrad Petronas Racing at Campo Grande by finishing third on the podium with the second RR from the team. Ribodino stood in for the injured Sebastián Porto (AR). Victor Moura (BR / M2B Racing) was tenth overall, claiming third place in the EVO class.

South African SuperGP Champions Trophy in East London, South Africa.

Heavy rain impacted massively on the fifth round of the South African SuperGP Champions Trophy (RSA BSK) at East London (ZA) last weekend. Only the first of the two scheduled races were able to be held. Nicholas Kershaw (ZA / Tsunami Beach Bar BMW) finished third on his BMW S 1000 RR, while fellow BMW rider Lance Isaacs (ZA / Black Swan Energy) was classified fourth. Race two had to be cancelled due to too much water on the track.

Armoy Road Races in Northern Ireland.

In preparing for the Ulster Grand Prix in early August, several BMW riders took part in the Armoy Road Races in Northern Ireland last weekend. At the event two Superbike races were held, with the BWM S 1000 RR dominating on both occasions. In the “Torquetronix Superbike Championship” Guy Martin (GB) and William Dunlop (GB) claimed a one-two for Tyco BMW. Michael Dunlop finished fourth on his MD Racing RR. It was then Michael Dunlop’s turn to step on the top step of the podium in the “International Race of Legends”: he won with Martin finishing second and William Dunlop coming home fourth. The Ulster Grand Prix will be he held from 3rd to 8th August. The event will count towards the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy rankings as part of the new BMW Combined Road Race Challenge (BMW RRC).

In 2015 the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy comprises of a total of 19 international and national championships. Participants in the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy can compete in multiple championships. The points scored in the different championships are calculated separately for each individual race series.
