Munich/Cologne/Berlin. From 26 - 28 November 2005, film makers and
members of the public met for the fifth time in Cologne to exchange
ideas about the peculiarities and challenges of the "invisible
art" at the professionals' forum for editing and cutting. The
BMW Group Editing Talent Award, which is worth 2,500 euros, was awarded
for the first time this year. The young filmmakers' prize, which is
presented for the cutting of a short film, goes in 2005 to Marty Schenk
for "Leroy räumt auf". "The editing of "Leroy
räumt auf" convinced the jury because of the special
lightness and spontaneity with which a vast range of challenges were
overcome, from music editing through high-speed climaxes to emotions.
The world premiere of the film at Film+ also generated interest in what
is a completely new genre for Germany - the blaxploitation Berlin film
- and Marty Schenk's editing played a large part in this",
commented the jury. Director and producer Marc Rothemund, who is in
the running for an Oscar in 2006 for his box-office success
"Sophie Scholl - Die letzten Tage", took over the
chairmanship of the awards ceremony on Monday, 28 November in the Alte
Bahndirektion in Cologne. Alongside the traditional editing prize for
feature films and documentary editing prize, the BMW Group Editing
Talent Award completed the "editing prize family" this year.
The BMW Group has been involved in the art of films for over 70 years,
supporting both national and international film projects. Support for
up-and-coming film makers is particularly important. We have added an
exclusiv interview with Marc Rothemund "Film cutting and the art
of editing" as well an review "5 years Schnitt+".
