Munich. The BMW G 650 Xcountry is about to be launched, just in time for
the start of the new motorcycle season. It is equipped with additional
functions, new equipment details and a new colour, ready for the 2009
model year. The Scrambler bike has been lowered and will soon be
available in the colour combination of plain sunset yellow and white
metallic matt. Modifications to the upside-down teleforks (spring
distance of 220 mm) and the adjustable strut (spring distance 165 mm),
coupled with alterations to the contours of the seat, have resulted in
a seat-height reduction from 840-870mm to 800-825mm. The five-way
adjustable handbrake lever is also new, as is the four-way adjustable
clutch lever. As a result of these new features, the G 650 Xcountry is
now able to serve the requirements of customers in this segment even
more precisely. A rear frame made of steel, with welded-on pillion
footrests holders, will be welded to the tubular steel-aluminium frame
of the bridge. Increased functionality will also be possible by
mounting a topcase from the BMW Motorrad accessories range onto the
frame. The economical and dynamic single-cylinder engine remains
unchanged. It delivers 39k W (53 hp) in power and attains a maximum
torque of 60Nm. Another remarkable aspect of the BMW G 650 Xcountry
is, as ever, its low weight of just 161.5kg (empty weight by DIN with
90% fuel). Dry weight is put at 149.5 kg. The Scrambler, which only on
February 8th of this year received the design prize of the Federal
Republic of Germany, is fitted with 19/17-inch wire wheels. Disc brakes
are employed, with a diameter of 300mm at the front and 240mm at the
rear; twin-channel ABS is also available as an optional extra. The
price of the BMW G 650 Xcountry in Germany is €6,900 incl. VAT at
19%. The revised model will be available in showrooms from the end of March.
