Munich (DE), 14th October 2015. It was a successful season finale for the BMW S 1000 RR in the Italian Superbike Championship (CIV): In the final races of the year in Mugello (IT), BMW racers Marco Marcheluzzo (IT) and Roberto Tamburini (IT) stepped onto the podium. Marcheluzzo was third in race one on Saturday, while Tamburini finished second in race two on Sunday.

Conditions were more than treacherous for race one. Rain made it a very wet track and the race was shortened to 12 laps. In the tricky conditions, eight of the 19 riders who started failed to finish. It was in this difficult race that Marcheluzzo celebrated his first podium finish of the season, crossing the line in third on his DMR Racing Team BMW S 1000 RR. BMW racer Marco Muzio (IT / Maan Motorsport The Black Sheep) was fifth, while fellow BMW riders Francesco Ciacci (IT / Furius Bulls Sibarys) and Alessandro Simoneschi (IT / Tutapista) finished tenth and 11th.

Race two on Sunday was held in dry conditions. This time it was Tamburini who represented the BMW colours on the podium. The Motoxracing rider finished runner-up, stepping onto the rostrum for the fifth time in the CIV season. In race one Tamburini was not able to start due to technical problems. In total eight BMW racers finished the final race of the season in the points. The best-placed RR rider behind Tamburini was Fabrizio Perotti (IT / Tutapista) in fifth. Remo Castellarin (IT) was ninth, Denni Schiavoni (IT / 2R Racing) tenth, Muzio 11th and Francesco Ciacci (IT / Furius Bulls Sibarys) 12th. Andrea Poggi (IT) and Marcheluzzo finished 14th and 15th. With their results, the riders also collected further points for the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy (see full rankings below).

In the overall championship rankings, Tamburini improved one position with his podium finish and ended the season in second place behind champion Michele Pirro (IT) with 122 points. Tamburini only took part in four of the season’s five rounds, claiming one win and four further podium finishes. In the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy Tamburini’s classification is due to his results from the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup (STK1000), where he scored even more Race Trophy points this season. Tamburini was also runner-up in the STK1000 championship rankings.

Four title wins for BMW Motorrad Racing Team Herpigny Motors.

The Belgium Team of Herpigny Motors can look back on impressive haul this season: BMW Motorrad Racing Team Herpigny Motors won the championship title in all four championships contested by its riders Vincent Lonbois (BE) and Sébastien Le Grelle (BE) in 2015. Lonbois finished the season as a triple champion: He won the BeNeCup, held for the first time this year, the national Belgian championship and the Open Dutch Championship ONK. Le Grelle clinched the title win in the International Road Racing Championship (IRRC) on his BMW S 1000 RR and finished runner-up behind Lonbois in the BeNeCup and in the Belgian Championship. The BeNeCup jointly hosted by the Belgian and Dutch motorcycle associations unites races in the national Belgian championship and the Open Dutch Championship ONK under one roof.
