Munich (DE), 24th November 2015. The privateer BMW racers have claimed the biggest success so far for BMW Motorrad at the legendary Macau Grand Prix: they not only secured the first ever victory for the German brand at this iconic road race, but also celebrated a clean sweep of the podium for the BMW S 1000 RR. The Macau Grand Prix at the challenging Guia Circuit on the streets of the former Portuguese colony and now Special Administrative Region of China, was held for the 49th time this year. A total of 30 riders competed in this extremely difficult race through the narrow streets of Macau, and among them were ten BMW riders. No less than four of them crossed the line in the top five. This year the BMW customer teams supported by the experts from BMW Motorrad Motorsport seemed to be in a class of their own in Macau.

The RR was the dominating bike in qualifying, with an all BMW front row. Martin Jessopp (GB / Riders Motorcycles BMW) secured pole position, Michael Rutter (GB / Penz13.com BMW Motorrad Motorsport by MGM China) was second on the grid, Peter Hickman (GB / Briggs Equipment BMW) third.

After 12 laps on the 6.115-kilometre track, it was Hickman who crossed the line first, celebrating the first Macau win of his career and the first for BMW. He also set the fastest lap of the race in 2:24.940 minutes. At the finish Hickman had an advantage of 6.276 seconds over Jessopp, who was second on the podium. The one-two-three for the BMW S 1000 RR was completed by Rutter, who was third on the podium. Gary Johnson (GB) rounded off the strong result for the BMW racers, coming home fifth on his Penz13.com BMW Motorrad Motorsport by MGM China RR. The Penz13.com squad of team principal Rico Penzkofer (DE) was also the most successful team in this year’s running of the Macau Grand Prix. In addition to the four BMW racers in the first five places, two more of their fellow RR riders finished the gruelling race in the top ten: Lee Johnston (GB / East Coast Construction) was ninth and David Johnson (AU / Ice Valley by Motorsave Trade) was tenth.

The Macau Grand Prix classified for both the BMW Combined Road Race Challenge (BMW RRC) and the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy.

Malaysia Superbike Championship in Sepang, Malaysia.

BMW racers have also been in action in another part of Asia this weekend: in Sepang (MY), the season finale of the 2015 Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSC) was held. The privateer BMW racers claimed several podium positions in their individual classes. In the Superbike class B, Ahmad Abas (MY) was second on the podium in both races (sixth and seventh overall) with his BMW S 1000 RR. In the Superstock class A, Nasarudin Mat Yusop (MY) was second in race one on his BMW Malaysia S 1000 RR.

2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy – Current Standings (without bonus points).

The Macau Grand Prix and the MSC races in Sepang were the last events in the scoring period for the 2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy, which ended on Sunday, 22nd November. However, the rankings are not final yet. Now the bonus points for title wins, pole positions etc. will be awarded to the participants. The final rankings of the 2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy will be announced during the BMW Motorrad Motorsport Season Finale next Saturday (28th November) in Munich (DE).

In 2015 the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy comprises a total of 19 international and national championships. Participants in the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy can compete in multiple championships. The points scored in the different championships are calculated separately for each individual race series. The current standings only include points from the race series in which the participant has scored the most Race Trophy points.
