1. UK model positioning for the R1200 ST

The new R1200 ST is a replacement for the R1150 RS, which was one of the most
successful BMW boxer twins of recent years. With a particularly loyal customer
base, the RS was voted Britain's number one machine - the overall winner of
RiDE magazine's 2003 Rider Power survey. The R1200 ST - Sports Tourer - retains
the original's groundbreaking versatility and rideability but provides more
power, better handling, less weight, improved aerodynamics and increased
weather protection.

In fact, the R1200 ST is the epitome of BMW's new design and engineering
philosophy to build faster, lighter, more powerful and, ultimately, more
rewarding motorcycles to ride. Designed uncompromisingly for road riding, it
does not sacrifice any of the legendary features that BMW Motorrad regards as
important. These include unchallengeable road holding, industry-leading safety,
magnificent ergonomics, unrivalled comfort levels, true reliability and high
resale values.

The R1200 ST uses the same engine as the all-conquering R1200 GS albeit a more
powerful derivative. The R1200 GS has received outstanding praise for its on-
and off-road capability but as a pure touring motorcycle, with a genuine
sporting capability, the new R1200 ST is a definitive road bike.

The R1200 ST is a long distance sprinter that offers the best of both worlds -
sporting and touring. High levels of touring comfort are matched with
effortless agility for everyday riding and outstanding handling dynamics on all
surfaces. The four-valve flat-twin engine delivers 110 bhp (a 15 bhp increase
over its predecessor) and a massive 115Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm.

Superior ride quality is provided for rider and passenger via lightweight
suspension unique to BMW Motorrad. Industry-advanced aerodynamics offer
outstanding weather protection and supreme stability even in gale force winds.
As you'd expect on a machine that offers the rider a choice of active sporty
riding, or relaxed touring, many components on the new ST are adjustable. These
include the screen, handlebars, footrests, seat, and brake and clutch levers.

Immediately following the launch of BMW Motorrad's fully equipped R1200 RT
touring machine, the R1200 ST has been designed to capture a new market share
of riders that want a motorcycle capable of covering long distances in comfort
but without sacrificing the dynamism, agility and excitement associated with
sports riding.

The R1200 ST will be available for demonstration rides at BMW Motorrad
dealerships from March 2005 and will be priced at £9,060 on the road. It is
available in a number of duo-tone colour schemes such as Light Magnesium
Metallic with a choice of Sydney Blue Metallic, Granite Grey Metallic or
Piemont Red Metallic finishes; or Dark Graphite Metallic, also with a choice of
Sydney Blue Metallic, Granite Grey Metallic or Piemont Red Metallic finishes.

There are also numerous UK factory-fitting options available, including:

Sports integral ABS - £795
Luggage rack - £75
Heated grips - £195
Anti-theft alarm system - £175
Centre stand - £70
Chrome Exhaust pipe - £75

CO2 emission information.

The values for fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and energy consumption shown were determined in a standardised test cycle according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version currently applicable. The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany and the range shown considers transmission (automatic or manual) and the different wheels and tyres available on the selected model and may vary during the configuration.

The values of the vehicles labelled with (*), are already based on the test cycle according to the new WLTP regulation and are translated back into NEDC-equivalent values in order to allow a comparison between vehicles. More information on the transition from NEDC to WLTP test procedures can be found here.

These figures are intended for comparison purposes and may not be representative of what a user achieves under usual driving conditions. For plug-in hybrid vehicles and battery electric vehicles the figures have been obtained using a combination of battery power and petrol fuel after the battery had been fully charged. Plug-in hybrid vehicles and battery electric vehicles require mains electricity for charging. The CO2 emissions labels are determined according to Directive 1999/94/EC and the Passenger Car (Fuel consumption and CO2 Emissions Information) Regulations 2001, as amended. They are based on the fuel consumption, CO2 values and energy consumptions according to the NEDC cycle.

A guide on fuel economy and CO2 emissions which contains data for all new passenger car models is available at any point of sale free of charge. For further information you can also visit this link.
