1. BMW 650i: Coupé and Convertible get a new 8-cylinder Power
Unit. 2. Technical Specifications. BMW's new 4.8-litre eight-cylinder
developing a maximum output of 270 kW, and just released in the new BMW
550i, has already made a great name for itself in the BMW 750i. Now
this new power unit, developing maximum torque of 490 Nm, is available
in the BMW 6 Series Coupé and Convertible. The two new BMW 650i
models replace the BMW 645Ci. Even better performance, similar fuel
consumption. Featuring 25 kW more power and an increase in torque of 40
Nm give BMW's two large sports cars even more dynamic performance and
supremacy on the road: The new BMW 650i Coupé accelerates from
standstill to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, while its open-air counterpart
completes the same exercise in 5.7 seconds. Passing another vehicle in
fourth gear of the six-speed manual gearbox featured as standard (an
optional six-speed Steptronic automatic transmission is available)
takes the 650i Coupé just 4.7 seconds, with the 650i Convertible
requiring only 0.2 seconds more. Top speed of both models is limited
electronically to 250 km/h. Despite its remarkable performance, the new
eight-cylinder coupé consumes just 11.9 litres of fuel per 100
kilometres, while the corresponding figure on the 650i Convertible is
12.9 litres/100 km. Best-in-class up to 5.0 litres. Offering truly
outstanding power and performance, the 650i featuring BMW VALVETRONIC
and double-VANOS, ensures exceptional engine response and rapid
reaction in all driving situations, offering ample power and performance
reserves whenever and wherever required. Again reflecting that typical
BMW style, the eight-cylinder revs up quickly and smoothly like a
turbine, giving both the driver and the passengers an extremely
sporting and dynamic driving experience based on supreme agility and
nimble handling. From outside both of the new models remain very
discreet in showing how new they really are: Only two new exterior
colours - Monaco Blue and Barbera Red - as well as a new 19-inch wheel
design with different-sized tyres (245/40 R 19 at the front, 275/35 R
19 at the rear) show the connoisseur that these are indeed BMW's new
650i models. A further sign of distinction underlining the two cars'
powerful look is the wider track at the rear, up by 8 millimetres.
Moving on to the elegant but sporting interior, the colour world now in
black replacing the former grey colour scheme, the new design of the
iDrive Controller as well as start/stop button on the instrument panel
are the most striking points. Comfort Access comes as an option. It
almost goes without saying that the two new BMW 650i models feature
BMW's latest generation of DSC Dynamic Stability Control offering the
driver a whole range of new safety functions such as Hill Start Assist,
Brake Standby in dangerous situations, Dry Braking in the wet, Fading
Compensation and Soft-Stop. Pricing BMW 650i Coupe: R751 000.00 BMW
650i Coupe Steptronic: R765 400.00 BMW 650i Convertible: R826 500.00 BMW
650i Convertible Steptronic: R840 900.00
