Entries open for the 2016 GS Trophy South Africa Qualifier events.

Midrand. BMW Motorrad GS owners who wish to emulate the adventure and success of Team South Africa at the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy will have the opportunity to test their mettle at the regional 2016 GS Trophy South Africa Qualifier events on the 9th April 2016.

The BMW Motorrad GS Trophy South Africa Qualifier events will take place simultaneously at various venues throughout the country and will serve as preliminary qualifying rounds for the national final qualifier, which will take place at the GS Trophy South Africa event (previously known as the GS Eco) from the 5th –to the 8th of May at Drakensville AKTV Resort in the Drakensburg. The winners of the national final will be crowned the national GS Trophy South Africa winners.

“The GS Trophy is a unique opportunity for GS owners to share their passion, while testing their riding skill and commitment to team work at a national level. Team South Africa’s win at the International GS Trophy Southeast Asia 2016 was proof of the international calibre of South African riders. I encourage GS owners to enter and, in BMW Motorrad spirit, make life a ride,” said Alexander Baraka, General Manager of BMW Motorrad South Africa.

The format of the regional qualifying events will be one-day intermediate level off-road riding courses, where entrants are not only assessed on their riding skills and technique but also on their mental and physical tenacity as well as teamwork The selection criterion for the winners is based on the International GS Trophy qualifying rules and regulations. The 2016 GS Trophy South Africa Qualifier is not open to instructors or any rider with a professional racing license.

The 2016 GS Trophy South Africa Qualifier regional events will be hosted in the following provinces and neighbouring countries:

• Gauteng
• Eastern Cape (including Garden Route area)
• Free State and Northern Cape
• Mpumalanga
• Western Cape
• KwaZulu-Natal
• Namibia (For the first time the regional qualifiers have been extended to Namibia).
