The 15th running of the Simola Hillclimb was sadly overshadowed by the passing of stalwart Pieter Joubert on Sunday’s first run. In the event’s shortened format, the BMW M4 Competition Coupé, driven by Cristiano Verolini secured a podium position among the road and supercar participants in the King of the Hill competition.
Leading up to the final run of the King of the Hill’s Top 10 Shootout, Verolini in the BMW M4 Competition Coupé and Leyton Fourie, racing a BMW M2, placed in the Top 10 Shootout in the A4 and A3 classes, respectively. The MINI JCW, driven by Bradleigh Boshoff, placed second in the A1 Class Finals, but ultimately could not secure a slot in the Top 10 shootout.
Despite the power difference between the ultimate winner in the King of the Hill’s Top 10 Shootout and the BMW M4 Competition Coupé, Verolini completed his final run with a time of 41.872 to secure second spot on the podium.
Leyton Fourie and his BMW M2 was the fastest finisher in the A3 Class for standard production vehicles, just missing out on the final Top 10 shootout podium position with a final run of 45.932 seconds.
BMW Group South Africa extends its heartfelt condolences to Pieter Joubert’s family and the Simola Hillclimb community.
