MINI partners with local talent Shekhinah on music video, showcasing innovative vehicle camera technology.

In an age when flexing your creative muscles is as easy as taking your phone out of your pocket, people are exploring new frontiers, new ways to express themselves and capture the world around them. MINI South Africa has opened the door to a whole new world of creative innovation with its collaboration with local artist Shekhinah and her latest visual diary.

Titled “Spoonky” and featured on her 2025 hit album “Less Trouble”, the video makes use of MINI’s integrated vehicle technology to tell a story about irresistible love and the journey it encompasses.

Enabling this production is “Made by MINI”, a new creative platform that positions MINI and all its model derivatives as a tool for creating content and expressing oneself.

“Automotive technology is evolving and becoming more human-centred than ever. MINI has always been a brand that connects strongly to the individual and everything that makes them unique. We sought to enhance that connection through technology, and the result is a platform that’s made by MINI, for the MINI community, and one that speaks to the heart of everything we set out to achieve,” says Carmen Myles, Head of MINI South Africa.

As part of the platform, the latest generation of MINI vehicles is equipped with four high-definition exterior cameras and one “selfie” cockpit camera. The exterior cameras, located on front and rear bumpers and wing mirrors of the vehicle, are capable of capturing footage with 1620x1280 resolution at 30 FPS (frames per second), while the interior camera is located in the front overhead cluster.

Drivers can immediately access the footage captured on their MINI’s cameras on their smart devices via the MINI app, and from there can share the footage with their favourite contacts, groups, and social media platforms.

“It was quite something to see my music come to life in such a unique way. It makes you think about what’s possible when it comes to bringing your ideas and stories to life. And with MINI, those things can come to life wherever you are or wherever you’re heading to,” Shekhinah added.

The "Spoonky" visual diary was shot using the integrated cameras on the latest-generation MINI John Cooper Works Countryman ALL4, the brand’s largest and most versatile model that combines all-wheel-drive with a flexible and dynamic driving experience, and the MINI John Cooper Works, inspired by the iconic 3-door original of the 1960s. 

“Shooting a visual diary using MINIs speaks to not only the versatility of our model offering, but also to how MINI delivers an elevated mobility experience defined by technical advancements and out-of-the-box thinking.
