BMW South Africa’s electromobility portfolio is reinforced by the addition of the BMW iX2 eDrive20 as the brand continues to provide a wide range of fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles across different segments. Delivering on BMW’s promise of premium and sustainable mobility, the attractive sports activity coupé body style enters a segment already represented by the BEV BMW iX1 xDrive30 and the PHEV BMW X1 xDrive30e, yet offers better value at the entry level.
The front-wheel drive variant’s total system power output of 150kW and 250Nm allows for an electronically-limited 170km/h top speed and a full-electric range up to 470km. Acceleration from standstill to 100km/h takes 8.8 seconds. In South Africa, the maximum AC charging rate is 22kW and 130kW for DC charging sources.
The BMW iX2, however, sets itself apart with its wide array of standard issue technological and comfort features. Driving Assist Professional encompasses a suite of radar- and camera-based safety and driving features including Active Cruise Control with Stop and Go (up to 180km/h), Steering and Lane Control Assistant, and Speed Limit Info with the display of speed limits in the instrument cluster.
Additionally, Parking Assist Plus is standard, offering surround view cameras for Active Park Distance Control and a Lateral Parking Aid – a boon in tight spaces and busy lots. Customisable Head Up Display reinforces BMW’s “eyes on the road, hands on the wheel” philosophy by projecting critical information onto the windscreen.
Visually, the BMW iX2 eDrive20 is distinguished by Iconic Kidney Glow for the enclosed grille with mesh design, adaptive LED headlights, panoramic glass roof and 19-inch light alloy wheels.
In the cabin, the iX2’s sport seats include electric seat adjustments and wireless charging is offered for mobile devices.
Ryan Warnasuriya, Product Manager for the BMW X1 and X2, says: “Electrification is a central pillar of BMW South Africa’s strategy to offer a sustainable, premium mobility experience across our portfolio. The BMW iX2 shows that no matter which battery-electric variant you might be in – even at the entry-level – you will be exposed to the premium technology people expect in a BMW model.”
The BMW iX2 eDrive20’s price of R1,300,000.00 includes VAT, Motorplan and BMW’s eight-year/160,000km battery warranty.
