1. UK market positioning for the new BMW K1200 R

The new K1200 R roadster is a muscle bike that owes its allegiance to nothing
that has gone before. It is not a replacement for any other machine and
represents a revolution in the unfaired bike sector. It has power and styling
not previously associated with BMW Motorrad and is yet another 'new generation'
model in the BMW range to change people's perception of the brand.

BMW's most powerful and aggressively-styled naked street bike, the 163bhp K1200
R has been uncompromisingly devised for road riding. Equipped with the same
engine (and digital motor electronics) as the formidable K1200 S superbike, the
new roadster delivers corresponding levels of comfort, ride quality, safety,
and environmental consideration.

Visually, the K1200 R copies nothing and leads everything. The roadster's
aggressive aesthetics are a synthesis of world-leading aerodynamics and
original thinking. But they are practical too. The level of performance
achieved by the K1200 R would be pointless without the capability to sustain
it.

A motorcycle that delivers such outstanding performance must also be safe, and
the K1200 R is one of the safest machines available. A low centre of gravity
ensures remarkable manoeuvrability at slow speeds and less 'edgy' handling at
high speeds. Sports Integral ABS and Electronic Suspension Adjustment options
ensure that the roadster requires less rider input than its contemporaries.
Despite its substantial power output, the K1200 R's safety features attract
favourable rates from BMW Insurance. This is backed by the industry's most
comprehensive after-market support and a vast array of options and accessories.

The innovative roadster's all-round capabilities have also inspired an exciting
new one-make race series - the BMW Motorrad Power-Cup - which will replace the
hugely successful BoxerCup on this year's European tracks in support of MotoGP.

The K1200 R is a road bike without compromise, and is destined to attract
considerable conquest sales. It will be in Motorrad dealerships from June 2005
at £9,190 on the road.

CO2 emission information.

The values for fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and energy consumption shown were determined in a standardised test cycle according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version currently applicable. The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany and the range shown considers transmission (automatic or manual) and the different wheels and tyres available on the selected model and may vary during the configuration.

The values of the vehicles labelled with (*), are already based on the test cycle according to the new WLTP regulation and are translated back into NEDC-equivalent values in order to allow a comparison between vehicles. More information on the transition from NEDC to WLTP test procedures can be found here.

These figures are intended for comparison purposes and may not be representative of what a user achieves under usual driving conditions. For plug-in hybrid vehicles and battery electric vehicles the figures have been obtained using a combination of battery power and petrol fuel after the battery had been fully charged. Plug-in hybrid vehicles and battery electric vehicles require mains electricity for charging. The CO2 emissions labels are determined according to Directive 1999/94/EC and the Passenger Car (Fuel consumption and CO2 Emissions Information) Regulations 2001, as amended. They are based on the fuel consumption, CO2 values and energy consumptions according to the NEDC cycle.

A guide on fuel economy and CO2 emissions which contains data for all new passenger car models is available at any point of sale free of charge. For further information you can also visit this link.
