Strategic issues of energy and transport policy
BMW engages itself fully in national and local issues affecting its business
and its customers. There are a number of strategic issues to which BMW gives
special attention.

CleanEnergy
Over the last 18 months, BMW has promoted discussion and awareness of the
benefits of hydrogen, the long-term fuel of the future, in government, academic
and business circles. The CleanEnergy 2002 event is part of the BMW
CleanEnergy World Tour which will visit 14 cities around the world in 2002,
with the objective of promoting hydrogen as the vehicle fuel of the future. It
aims to raise and debate the practical and political issues surrounding the
production and distribution of hydrogen and to develop partnerships with other
organizations to work towards establishing a hydrogen supply network.

As well as London, the tour will be visiting Beijing, Frankfurt, Johannesburg,
Madrid, Montreal, New York, Paris, Sacramento, Salzburg, Singapore, Stockholm,
Sydney and Zurich in 2002.

BMW is involved in a number of UK research projects intended to speed up the
introduction of the hydrogen economy. These include a study of the
infrastructure requirements for hydrogen distribution in London with Imperial
College and other partners, several projects with the Tyndall Centre including
the use of hydrogen in transport and the methods and costs of hydrogen
production.

Transport Policy
BMW takes an active part in national and local consultations on transport
infrastructure development. The motor industry is one of the largest customers
for rail transport in Europe and BMW uses rail to transport MINI exports to
European destinations. Other active transport policy issues include
discussions about congestion pricing policies, green commuter travel plans and
coming to terms with possible workplace parking charges.

CO2 emission information.

The values for fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and energy consumption shown were determined in a standardised test cycle according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version currently applicable. The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany and the range shown considers transmission (automatic or manual) and the different wheels and tyres available on the selected model and may vary during the configuration.

The values of the vehicles labelled with (*), are already based on the test cycle according to the new WLTP regulation and are translated back into NEDC-equivalent values in order to allow a comparison between vehicles. More information on the transition from NEDC to WLTP test procedures can be found here.

These figures are intended for comparison purposes and may not be representative of what a user achieves under usual driving conditions. For plug-in hybrid vehicles and battery electric vehicles the figures have been obtained using a combination of battery power and petrol fuel after the battery had been fully charged. Plug-in hybrid vehicles and battery electric vehicles require mains electricity for charging. The CO2 emissions labels are determined according to Directive 1999/94/EC and the Passenger Car (Fuel consumption and CO2 Emissions Information) Regulations 2001, as amended. They are based on the fuel consumption, CO2 values and energy consumptions according to the NEDC cycle.

A guide on fuel economy and CO2 emissions which contains data for all new passenger car models is available at any point of sale free of charge. For further information you can also visit this link.
