Dakar Rally tested and approved

You don't have to be a world-class rider to wear the best motorcycle clothing.
In fact, BMW Motorrad has made it possible for the everyday rider to wear
exactly what British Dakar competitors Simon Pavey and Nick Plumb wore in this
year's rally.

Simon and Nick wore BMW's new Rallye 2 suit and Rallye GS1 boots while
competing in this year's Dakar. They were able to combat every riding condition
thrown at them - from the beautiful beaches of southern Spain to the rough
desert terrain of Libya.

"I wore the BMW Rallye 2 suit and GS1 boots for the entire 19 days and
7,700-kilometre gruelling Dakar race and it definitely stood up to the
conditions," said Plumb who was the youngest British competitor to complete in
this year's Dakar.

"I fell off the bike numerous times and crashed heavily twice and the BMW
clothing didn't get damaged at all. Actually, I probably would have broken my
ankle in a big crash if I hadn't been wearing boots as good as the GS1 boots.

"The great thing about the Rallye 2 suit is that it's everything rolled into
one. A motorcycle suit with a whole lot of storage space. I was able to keep
everything with me so I didn't have to worry about people stealing my things...
it's just a small downside to the Dakar... but it's a problem I didn't have to
face."

The sporty-looking Rallye 2 suit is the complete all-round motorcycle suit -
perfect for riding in any situation - on or off-road. It is made from tear
resistant Cordura® additionally reinforced in potential crash and fall zones,
and seat. The suit also features a GORE-TEX® insert, which protects the rider
from wind and rain.

The trousers are made from an extremely tear resistant Dynatec-Stretch and
Cordura® Stretch material for a high level of mobility. Knee sections are
reinforced with leather.

The BMW Rallye 2 suit has protectors incorporated at the shoulder, elbow, hip
and knee areas. Also fitted as standard is a CE-approved back protector. All
the protectors are removable so that the suit can be machine-washed.

In hot climatic conditions the rider can undo ventilation zips in the arm,
chest, back and leg areas. The sleeves of the jacket are also removable so that
the Rallye 2 can be worn as a vest, or body warmer.

Other practical features of the suit include clear BMW branding, reflective
material incorporated into the design, a plethora of pockets, integrated
removable hip bag, a view pocket for start number or map, and a area for a BMW
Trinkback (water bottle) to be fitted for a direct drink supply.

The tough new off-road Rallye GS1 boots have been designed for enduro riding.
They are made from a combination of robust and durable full grain cow's leather
and anatomically-formed hard plastic shells.

The Rallye GS1 boots are adjustable on the inside and outside to ensure that
the rider can achieve a perfect fit. There are four quick fasteners on the
outside of the boot and the ankle joints are flexible, but still provide
optimum support.

For comfort the BMW Rallye GS1 boots have leather padding at the ankle areas
and employ a gel underlay. The sole of the boot has been double stitched and
hardened. It also has a twist-resistant innersole.

BMW's Rallye 2 suit is now available at BMW Motorrad dealerships in a choice of
two colour variations - grey/red and grey/black. It is available in UK standard
sizes of 36 to 50 as well as several slim fit sizes. The jacket costs a RRP of
£380 and the trousers £270. The black/white/yellow GS1 boots are made in sizes
5.5 to 14 and cost £175.
