Visitors to the O2O London Motorcycle and Scooter Show from 21-25 February will
be able to ride BMW's acclaimed C1 under controlled conditions at a special
indoor try-a-bike area.
BMW has reserved an exclusive area within the North Hall 2 at the show's London
Excel venue, where visitors (over the age of 21) can register for a free test
ride and relax in the C1 café hospitality area, before experiencing BMW's urban
mobility solution with a qualified instructor.
BMW launched the unique C1 last May as an answer to city congestion and it was
instantly acclaimed for its passive safety features, which offer similar
protection to that provided by a small car. The C1 protects its rider by means
of a torsionally rigid aluminium spaceframe occupant "cell" with a crumple zone
at the front and an ingenious belt system that holds the rider securely inside
the safety cell at all times.
Extensive crash tests have confirmed that the C1 rider's head is well protected
in an accident, even if a helmet is not worn. In the other European countries
where the C1 is sold, it has been granted exemption from compulsory helmet laws.
The C1 is soon to be joined by a more powerful version, the C1 200, which will
be launched in the UK this spring. With a power increase over the standard
model of 20 per cent (from 15 to 18 bhp) and a torque increase of 42 per cent
(from 8.8 to 12.5 lb ft) the C1 200 offers faster acceleration (0-30 mph in 3.9
seconds vs 5.9) and a higher top speed (70 mph vs 64 mph).
In addition to the C1 try-a-bike area, the current motorcycle range will be on
display at BMW's trade stand within the main hall. Visitors can also find out
details of the wide range of World of BMW events taking place during 2001.
