Munich. "In terms of performance, driving dynamics and luxurious comfort, the
BMW 760Li will set new standards in the 12-cylinder luxury saloon segment, also
significantly outperforming its competitors in terms of fuel economy", stated
Dr Burkhard Göschel, Member of the BMW Group Board of Management for
Development and Purchasing, at the presentation of the top model for the new
BMW 7 Series range at the BMW Group Press Conference in Frankfurt.
Dr Göschel emphasized that this is the first BMW to feature direct gasoline
injection supplementing VALVETRONIC technology. The combination of these top
technologies allows unparalleled fuel economy, on the one hand, plus supreme
specific torque and output, on the other. Contrary to GDI engines incorporating
a lean-burn concept and a Denox catalytic converter, the BMW VALVETRONIC+DI
concept with lambda=1 emission technology offers the big advantage of being
suitable for use worldwide, regardless of the level of sulphur in the fuel
available, without any increase in fuel consumption.
The all-new V12 aluminium engine in uncompromising 60° configuration will
displace 6.0 litres, developing maximum output of more than 300 kW/408 bhp and
maximum torque of approximately 600 Nm/442 lb-ft. Like the new V8 power units,
this new 12-cylinder features not only BMW's innovative VALVETRONIC technology
responsible to a large extent for the superior fuel economy of the 760i, but
also four-valve technology and fully variable bi-VANOS camshaft control.
The BMW 760i/760Li is to be launched in autumn 2002.
