Munich. When the call goes out from Lord March, everyone responds like a
flash. The Festival of Speed at Goodwood in southern England ranks beside the
Mille Miglia and the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este as one of the top events
for BMW in the 2002 classic calendar. The BMW Group is involved again this
year with a raft of rare models from the BMW Mobile Tradition collection. From
July 12-14, 2002, 5 BMW motorcycles and 11 sports cars will be making their
appearance on the race track in the historic grounds of Goodwood House, driven
by a host of celebrities from the world of motor racing.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed enjoys an excellent reputation among motorsport
fans. This is the only event at which spectators can enjoy 100 years of motor
racing history in action. More than 100,000 visitors regularly flock to see
motorcycles and sports cars of every class and age group carry out their runs
on the 1,2 miles circuit and fight to achieve the best time.

The BMW Group, represented by Mobile Tradition, will be lining up on the grid
in various racing categories to storm up the hill crowned by Goodwood House.

To mark the 75th anniversary of the Mille Miglia, the historic long-distance
race of the pre-war era, three BMW 328 sports versions will be competing - two
roadsters and a coupé. They were built between 1938 and 1940, specifically for
the Italian event. The coupé is the winning car of the 1940 race, in which the
Hanstein/Bäumer team secured one of the greatest triumphs in BMW's pre-war
history. These models will be driven by Jim Proffit, who owns the winning 328
of 1940, and Giuliano Cané, seven-times winner of the Mille Miglia Storica, and
a team made up of Dr Costantino Franchi - organizer of the historic Mille
Miglia Storica - and Dr Michael Ganal, BMW board member responsible for Sales
and Marketing.

It was similarly 75 years ago that the Nürburgring witnessed its first ever
race. Next to the BMW 2000 TI with which Hubert Hahne claimed the first
sub-ten-minute lap record for touring cars in 1966, the BMW X5 Le Mans will
also be contending in this class. This concept vehicle is based on the BMW X5
and features the 700 bhp unthrottled engine and braking system of the 1999 Le
Mans-winning car. So far, this test bed has been driven just once, when
Hans-Joachim ("Strietzel") Stuck chased it around the old North Loop in 2001 to
clock a time of 7 minutes 49.92 seconds. With Hahne and Stuck, two Nürburgring
legends will be present on the grid at Goodwood.

BMW will be competing in even more categories than that, with a view to
demonstrating the sheer diversity of its own motor racing past. "Rally
Professor" Rauno Aaltonen will be manning a BMW 2002 Gr. 2, Hubert Hahne a
Chevron BMW B21, which competed in the 1972 Sports Car World Championship. The
1970s will be represented by Marc Surer and the March BMW 792 with which he
claimed the 1979 Formula 2 European Championship title, as well as Bruno
Giacomelli in his 1979 BMW M1 Procar. The only Touring Car World Championship
title ever presented went to Roberto Ravaglia in 1987. At Goodwood, Andreas
Bovensiepen will be driving the winning BMW M3 (E 30), the most successful
touring car of all time.

Finally, another historic event will be marked at Goodwood. Williams, one of
the most successful racing teams in Formula One, celebrates its 25th
anniversary. On Saturday, Ralf Schumacher will be there in an FW 23 from the
last season to wish the team a happy birthday. The grid line-up will be
rounded off by the BMW Alpina Roadster V8 and the BMW M3 Convertible. In a
demonstration race by the super sports cars, they will show that dynamism isn't
the exclusive attribute of BMW racing drivers.

Proof that BMW's racing past does not rest entirely on four wheels is provided
by a cross-section of successful BMW racing motorcycles. The R 51 RS ridden by
the Hungarian champion of 1939 documents a time when BMW two-wheelers were
instantly recognizable to fans by their black paintwork. Private racing in the
1970s is represented by Helmut Dähne and Herbert Enzinger on the R 90 S, which
won the Production TT in 1976, and the motorcycle which caused a sensation in
the 1990 Battle of the Twins. BMW's most recent racing involvement is
represented by the reigning long-distance world champion, Brian Morrison, on a
BMW Boxer Cup R 1100 S and BMW's chief of Motorcycle Motorsport, Berthold
Hauser, on a BMW R 900 RR.

Spectators wishing to know more about BMW's motorsport past beyond the race
track can visit the BMW Pavilion - incidentally, the only one of its kind at
the Goodwood Festival of Speed - and find out about the Munich company's
success story on two and four wheels.

A certain crowd-puller in this year's BMW motorsport exhibition will again be
the current Formula One car of the BMW.WilliamsF1 Team. Those interested in
the technical side can view the display on 25 years of BMW high-performance
engines.

Hailing from the 1950s is the sidecar combination in which Kraus/Huser claimed
the German Motorcycle Championship in 1950, as well as the 1952 solo machine
based on Georg Meier's pre-war BMW. The BMW R 68 - the first German
"100-miler", i.e. a production bike with a top speed of 100 mph (160 km/h),
which was very popular in off-road racing - will be marking its 50th
anniversary.

Also being celebrated - 25 Years of the BMW Junior Team. It was a quarter of a
century ago that BMW first demonstrated its commitment to promoting
up-and-coming young racing talent. Bearing witness to this involvement are the
BMW 320 Group 5 with which the founder team of Eddie Cheever, Marc Surer and
Manfred Winkelhock raced in 1977, and the March BMW Formula 2 of Bruno
Giacomelli, proving that BMW's sponsorship of young talent embraced Formula
racing from the start.

In the symbolic year of 2002 there is one car that cannot fail to make an
appearance, namely the forerunner of BMW's compact and sporty saloons. With
the Schnitzer 2002 Turbo Group 4, one of the most powerful representatives of
this cult car is being presented, along with its aesthetic complement in the
1969 design study by Italian stylist Pietro Frua. The link with today's 3
Series motorsport involvement is the BMW 3.0 CSL, which is etched in the
memories of fans as the "Batmobile" of the spectacular touring car races of the
1970s.

Also hailing from the early 1970s is Helmut Dähne's BMW RS 750, derived from
the legendary /5 Series, with which he competed against the armada of factory
racing bikes above all in endurance events. Proof of the endurance of close
contacts can be seen in Dähne's current involvement in the BMW BoxerCup, where
he is holding his own against far younger competition. Fans can take a closer
look at the current racer in the BMW Pavilion as well.

There is a sad background to the BMW R 650 RR on display. This was the
training bike used by John Deacon, who had a fatal accident in the Master Rally
a month after his spectacular performance at last year's Festival of Speed.
With this machine and the race-fielded Dakar Boxers, BMW pays its respects to
an outstanding sportsman.

CO2 emission information.

The values for fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and energy consumption shown were determined in a standardised test cycle according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version currently applicable. The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany and the range shown considers transmission (automatic or manual) and the different wheels and tyres available on the selected model and may vary during the configuration.

The values of the vehicles labelled with (*), are already based on the test cycle according to the new WLTP regulation and are translated back into NEDC-equivalent values in order to allow a comparison between vehicles. More information on the transition from NEDC to WLTP test procedures can be found here.

These figures are intended for comparison purposes and may not be representative of what a user achieves under usual driving conditions. For plug-in hybrid vehicles and battery electric vehicles the figures have been obtained using a combination of battery power and petrol fuel after the battery had been fully charged. Plug-in hybrid vehicles and battery electric vehicles require mains electricity for charging. The CO2 emissions labels are determined according to Directive 1999/94/EC and the Passenger Car (Fuel consumption and CO2 Emissions Information) Regulations 2001, as amended. They are based on the fuel consumption, CO2 values and energy consumptions according to the NEDC cycle.

A guide on fuel economy and CO2 emissions which contains data for all new passenger car models is available at any point of sale free of charge. For further information you can also visit this link.
