BMW Motorrad's flagship K1200 LT touring machine has yet again won the Best
Tourer category at the 2003 Motor Cycle News Awards. The annual ceremony took
place at the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show in Birmingham's National
Exhibition Centre last Friday afternoon.
It is the fifth consecutive year that the K1200 Luxury Tourer has won this
prestigious award, a fact which Acting General Manager for Motorcycles, Ian
Furse is justifiably proud of: "We're extremely pleased to accept the best
tourer award yet again for the K1200 LT. Our flagship touring machine offers
unrivalled levels of comfort for the rider and passenger, and its use of the
latest technology makes it one of the most innovative and exclusive motorcycles
in the world. Our customers already know this, but it always helps to spread
the word and the MCN Awards are an excellent way of doing this."
Now in their eighth year, the MCN Awards are a highly recognised mark of
achievement in the industry and awards for the various different categories of
motorcycle were presented in front of the biking public on Friday's preview day
at the NEC. In addition to the K1200 LT's Best Tourer award, BMW motorcycles
also featured prominently in the shortlists for several categories: the new
R1200 C Montauk was nominated in the cruiser category; the R1100 S in the
sports tourer category; the F650 Dakar in the trail bike category and the K1200
LT in the overall machine of the year category.
