M Sport Package comes to the Five
Both BMW 5 Series Saloon and Touring models will be available in M Sport guise this September when the highly popular specification goes on sale.

The package, which is specified on the vast majority of BMW 5 Series Saloon and Touring models ordered in the UK, has been developed by BMW M GmbH and comprises components that have been specifically adapted to match the suspension, aerodynamics, exterior and interior design of each model. The M Sports suspension, M aerodynamics package and 18-inch M light alloys featuring a double spoke design not only create an exceptionally powerful appearance but also contribute towards enhanced driving dynamics.

Specially developed Sports seats give the interior a particularly sporting ambience, while further interior features include an M leather-clad steering wheel, an M gear lever knob, an anthracite roof lining and M aluminium hexagon interior trim strips. Further options include 19-inch M light alloys as well as an M rear spoiler for the saloon.

The new 299hp BMW 535d Saloon
The fourth and most powerful diesel version of the new BMW 5 Series – the 299hp 535d Saloon - will go on sale in September. BMW twin turbocharger and common rail direct injection technology helps make this 3.0-litre straight-six all-aluminium engine one of the world’s most powerful six-cylinder diesel unit. Its 299hp available at 4,400rpm while maximum torque is 600Nm is available from 1,750rpm.

A smaller turbocharger operating just above idling speed gives the BMW 535d instant surge, while a larger turbo is activated at higher speeds, supplying additional power for maximum performance. Equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the new BMW 535d Saloon will accelerate from zero to 62mph in just 5.7 seconds.

But along with its dynamic capability comes efficiency. Thanks to the latest generation common rail system operating at a maximum pressure of 2,000 bar and guaranteeing a particularly accurate supply of fuel, the BMW 535d achieves an astonishing average combined fuel consumption of 46.3mpg.

New engines for the BMW 5 Series Touring
Soon after its launch, in September 2010 two additional diesel engines and a third straight six-cylinder petrol engine will be added to the BMW 5 Series Touring range.

As with the Saloon, the Touring will get one of the world’s most powerful straight-six diesel engine: the 299bhp 535d with BMW twin turbocharger and common rail direct injection technology. Sprinting from zero to 62mph in only 5.7 seconds, the BMW 535d Touring is as parsimonious as it is powerful averaging a combined fuel consumption of 44.8mpg.

Completing a full line-up of diesel models will be the BMW 525d Touring. Featuring a 3.0-litre straight six-cylinder engine plus a single turbocharger with variable intake geometry and common rail direct injection, the engine delivers 204hp at 4,000rpm, with maximum torque of 450Nm between 1,750 and 2,500rpm. The BMW 525d Touring accelerates from zero to 62mph in 7.3 seconds and has an average fuel consumption of 44.8mpg.

Using the 3.0-litre straight six-cylinder with High Precision Direct Injection, the BMW 528i Touring delivers a power output of 258hp at 6,600rpm and achieves maximum torque of 310Nm between 2,600 and 5,000rpm. The BMW 528i Touring sprints from zero to 62mph in just 6.9 seconds, while average fuel consumption is 35.3mpg.

New gearbox for BMW X1 xDrive23d

The previously obligatory six-speed automatic transmission is now available as an option, while the manual version sees emission levels drop to 158g/km of CO2, from 167g/km for the automatic.

Peak power output remains 204hp with a maximum torque of 400Nm while the zero to 62mph acceleration stays at 7.3seconds. Average fuel consumption of a manual transmission equipped BMW X1xDrive23d is 47.1mpg.

CO2 emission information.

The values for fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and energy consumption shown were determined in a standardised test cycle according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version currently applicable. The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany and the range shown considers transmission (automatic or manual) and the different wheels and tyres available on the selected model and may vary during the configuration.

The values of the vehicles labelled with (*), are already based on the test cycle according to the new WLTP regulation and are translated back into NEDC-equivalent values in order to allow a comparison between vehicles. More information on the transition from NEDC to WLTP test procedures can be found here.

These figures are intended for comparison purposes and may not be representative of what a user achieves under usual driving conditions. For plug-in hybrid vehicles and battery electric vehicles the figures have been obtained using a combination of battery power and petrol fuel after the battery had been fully charged. Plug-in hybrid vehicles and battery electric vehicles require mains electricity for charging. The CO2 emissions labels are determined according to Directive 1999/94/EC and the Passenger Car (Fuel consumption and CO2 Emissions Information) Regulations 2001, as amended. They are based on the fuel consumption, CO2 values and energy consumptions according to the NEDC cycle.

A guide on fuel economy and CO2 emissions which contains data for all new passenger car models is available at any point of sale free of charge. For further information you can also visit this link.
