Introducing the most powerful models ever approved for public road use in the brand’s sixty year history; the MINI John Cooper Works Clubman and MINI John Cooper Works Countryman.

The 306hp 4-cylinder turbo engine in the new MINI John Cooper Works Clubman (fuel consumption combined: 38.1 – 39.8 mpg; CO2  emissions combined: 169 – 161g/km) and the new MINI John Cooper Works Countryman (fuel consumption combined: 38.7 – 40.9 mpg; CO2  emissions combined: 166 –156g/km) both provide outstanding performance, combined as standard with a new 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission and an ALL4 all-wheel drive system.

The latest generation of the 4-cylinder engine developed for the John Cooper Works models with MINI TwinPower Turbo technology exceeds that of the previous engine by 75hp at maximum output. Maximum torque has also increased by 100Nm to 450Nm, and acceleration performance has improved.

The new MINI John Cooper Works Clubman boasts acceleration of 0 to 62mph in 4.9 seconds, with the new MINI John Cooper Works Countryman achieving the same in 5.1 seconds – 1.4 and 1.5 seconds faster than in the respective previous models.

Maximum output from four cylinders: New 2.0
litre engine with MINI   TwinPower   Turbo   technology.

The 4-cylinder engine has been completely redesigned to deliver maximum performance thanks to model-specific modifications to the crankshaft drive and a new vibration damper with optimised cooling.

The MINI TwinPower Turbo technology also includes fully variable valve control and variable camshaft control on the intake and exhaust sides (double VANOS).

Independent cooling concept.

The new powertrain has been designed to offer a spontaneous response to the slightest movement of the accelerator and a newly advanced cooling system has been developed so an optimum running temperature for the engine is guaranteed at all times.

The high-performance drive of the new MINI John Cooper Works Clubman and the new MINI John Cooper Works Countryman generates a maximum torque of 450Nm in the broad engine speed range between 1,750 and 4,500 rpm - around 28 percent higher than that of the previous engine. The maximum output of the new 4-cylinder engine has been increased by approximately 32 percent.

For the first time in a MINI, the maximum speed of the new top sports performer is now electronically limited to 155mph.

The sound of the newly developed sport exhaust system is dramatic however, when driving at a relaxed pace the sound is more reserved. The twin exhaust system leads into a new, particularly large-volume rear silencer. To optimise emissions, the sports exhaust system is fitted with a petrol particulate filter and emission control in both of the new models is in line with the Euro 6d-TEMP standard.

8-speed Steptronic sports transmission with mechanical differential lock.

The latest generation of the 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission displays enhanced internal efficiency and an extended steering axis inclination resulting lower engine speeds when driving in a higher gear. Shift paddles are mounted as standard on the steering wheel of both models for manual gear selection.

The new automatic transmission also features an integrated differential lock which functions transversely to reduce the speed compensation between the front wheels. Under load conditions a locking effect of up to 39 percent can be generated. The mechanical differential lock is interconnected with the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), which aids both the traction of the new on loose terrain or in poor weather conditions, as well as the driving dynamics when taking bends.

ALL4 all-wheel drive with model-specific components.

The standard ALL4 all-wheel drive system plays a central role in optimising the cars’ traction, agility and driving stability. The intelligent controller of the ALL4 system is interconnected with the DSC Dynamic Stability Control and constantly calculates the ideal power distribution ratio between the front and rear wheels.

In normal driving conditions with the DSC activated, it transmits the drive torque in the brand-typical manner to the front wheels. This allows the engine power to be converted into forward propulsion with maximum efficiency. But if the DSC controller detects a danger of slip on the front wheels, within a fraction of a second, the hang-on clutch will transfer the drive torque to the rear wheels with the aid of an electrohydraulic pump.

Evolved sport chassis and a new sports brake system

The chassis of the new MINI John Cooper Works Clubman and the new MINI John Cooper Works Countryman has also been improved thanks to model-specific versions of the single-joint spring-strut-type axle for the front wheel and the multi-joint rear axle.

An adaptive chassis with electronically controlled dampers is available as an additional option. Judder dampers operate in line with a choice of two characteristic diagrams, coordinated for either sporty or more comfort-oriented driving scenarios. In the new MINI John Cooper Works Clubman, both the standard sport chassis and the adaptive chassis can be lowered by 10 millimetres to lower the cars centre of gravity.

The sport brake system has also been redesigned and now contains 4-piston, fixed-caliper disc brakes on the rear wheels to ensure constantly high braking values. The large brake discs of 360 × 30 millimetres at the front and 330 × 20 millimetres at the rear combined with optimised coolant duct geometry also play their part in achieving the high level of stability. The red brake calipers at the front bear the John Cooper Works logo.

Body structure and chassis fastening with optimised rigidity.

The large air inlets on the front of the vehicle are designed to serve the cooling requirements of both the drive and the brake system. Model-specific roof spoilers play a role in reducing uplift at high travel speeds and the two new models are equipped with aerodynamically optimised mirror caps.

Premium standard equipment and sophisticated options.

The central air inlet of both models has a honeycomb pattern structure and an optional contrast paintwork is available in red for the roof and mirror caps, adding to the cars sporty look. Inside the vehicle, John Cooper Works sports seats come as standard, with a John Cooper Works sports steering wheel and anthracite headliner.

The standard equipment of both high performance models includes LED headlights, MINI Driving Modes, Navigation Pack offering a 6.5 inch display with touchscreen function, a redesigned graphical display and Real Time Traffic Information (RRTI). Comfort Plus pack is provided as standard including front and rear Park Distance Control (PDC) with Park Assist, a rear view camera, seat heating and folder mirrors.

18 inch John Cooper Works light metal wheels in Black Grip Spoke design are offered as standard, with John Cooper Works 19 inch Circuit Spoke wheels available optionally.

The new MINI John Cooper Works Clubman and MINI John Cooper Works Countryman are available from July 2019, priced from £34,250 and £35,550 respectively.

CO2 emission information.

The values for fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and energy consumption shown were determined in a standardised test cycle according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version currently applicable. The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany and the range shown considers transmission (automatic or manual) and the different wheels and tyres available on the selected model and may vary during the configuration.

The values of the vehicles labelled with (*), are already based on the test cycle according to the new WLTP regulation and are translated back into NEDC-equivalent values in order to allow a comparison between vehicles. More information on the transition from NEDC to WLTP test procedures can be found here.

These figures are intended for comparison purposes and may not be representative of what a user achieves under usual driving conditions. For plug-in hybrid vehicles and battery electric vehicles the figures have been obtained using a combination of battery power and petrol fuel after the battery had been fully charged. Plug-in hybrid vehicles and battery electric vehicles require mains electricity for charging. The CO2 emissions labels are determined according to Directive 1999/94/EC and the Passenger Car (Fuel consumption and CO2 Emissions Information) Regulations 2001, as amended. They are based on the fuel consumption, CO2 values and energy consumptions according to the NEDC cycle.

A guide on fuel economy and CO2 emissions which contains data for all new passenger car models is available at any point of sale free of charge. For further information you can also visit this link.
