BMW has celebrated a successful start to the new year, securing a trio of award wins at the 45th annual What Car? Car of the Year Awards. The all-new BMW i7, the BMW 4 Series Coupé and BMW 4 Series Convertible were each recognised as best in their respective categories.

The recently launched BMW i7 took home the highly coveted ‘What Car? Technology Award’. Remarking on the win, Steve Huntingford, Editor, What Car? commented, "The What Car? Technology Award celebrates game-changing technology, and the Theatre Screen in the BMW i7 is exactly that, revolutionising in-car infotainment.”

The all-electric flagship was also commended for its “sumptuous interior, fantastic refinement, long range and superb ride and handling balance”. Huntingford continued: “the BMW i7 is a fabulous car to travel in, whether you’re driving or being driven. In fact, we think it’s the best electric luxury car on sale.”.

First announced in April 2022, the BMW i7 harmonises driving pleasure, passenger comfort and a luxurious ambience without compromise. The 31.3” Theatre Screen in the rear passenger compartment redefines in-car entertainment and sets a new benchmark in the industry. Powered by a duo of electric motors, the i7 xDrive60 delivers a maximum combined output of 544hp and completes the 0 to 62mph sprint in just 4.7 seconds – all with zero local emissions.

The BMW 4 Series Coupé retained its title for a third consecutive year, securing ‘Coupé of the Year’. Huntingford praised the “great all-rounder” for its ability to combine class-leading agility with a comfortable ride. “In fact, it’s even good at the things coupés traditionally don’t do well; there’s space for adults in the back and a big boot.”

Also retaining its 2022 accolade, the BMW 4 Series Convertible impressed judges, taking the top spot as ‘Convertible of the Year’. On presenting the win, What Car? judges said, "A great convertible should allow its driver to enjoy open-top thrills when the weather permits, but still be comfortable, engaging and easy to live with when the sun isn't playing ball. And the 4 Series Convertible absolutely delivers.” The 4 Series Convertible was also commended for its “classy, user-friendly interior” and “surprising practicality”. “It’s truly a car for all seasons.” judges added.

Echoing the bold style of the 4 Series Coupé, the BMW 4 Series Convertible was launched in late 2020 and blends sporting driving pleasure with open-air thrills, advanced chassis technology and impressive levels of standard equipment.
