+++ DSV biathletes chalk up 15 driver safety training courses at the BMW IBU World Championships in Oberhof +++ BMW Group increases number of places to 20 +++ DSV and National Paralympic Committee Germany to award training courses +++

Munich/Oberhof. The German team secured a total of one gold and two silver medals, and six top-six finishes, at the Biathlon World Championships. Mobility partner BMW donated a driver safety training course for people with physical disabilities for each medal and top-six finish recorded by the German national biathlon team. The DSV team chalked up a total of 15 driver safety training courses, a number that BMW will increase to 20.

DSV Biathlon and BMW had taken the Biathlon World Championships in Germany as an opportunity to work together to give something back to society beyond sport, to promote individual mobility for all and inclusion.  The BMW M Driving Experience offering includes special safety training for persons with physical restrictions and supports them in having more autonomous and safer mobility on the road.

“It was a fantastic home world championship, in front of superb spectators. I am delighted with what we experienced and achieved here collectively, as a team,” said Denise Hermann-Wick, who claimed the sprint world title and won silver in the pursuit as well as in the women relay. “Being able to gift so many driver safety training courses with our mobility partner BMW is the icing on the cake. Sport is so powerful in terms of inclusion, which is why this promotion really suits us and we are happy to have made a contribution with our world championship results.”

Various BMW and BMW M models that have been equipped with control units operated by hand are used during the driver safety training courses. Participants learn how to keep their vehicle under control calmly and skilfully in unexpected situations. The offering is aimed at both paraplegics and people who work with people with physical challenges. Both groups can attend the special training course together and discover how to handle this kind of car safely.

The 20 places will be awarded to clubs in the German Ski Association and the National Paralympic Committee Germany. The driver safety training courses will take place in summer 2023 at the BMW M Driving Academy in Maisach.

The BMW Group sees diversity as a strength. Diversity helps to attract and retain the best talent, and to meet customer expectations around the world. The BMW Group fosters a culture that is free of prejudice and appreciates differences. Equal opportunities and inclusion are key foundations here.

CO2 emission information.

Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption and range were measured using the methods required according to Regulation VO (EC) 2007/715 as amended. They refer to vehicles on the German automotive market. For ranges, the NEDC figures take into account differences in the selected wheel and tyre size, while the WLTP figures take into account the effects of any optional equipment.

All figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle. NEDC figures listed have been adjusted to the NEDC measurement method where applicable. WLTP values are used as a basis for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related duties which are (also) based on CO2 emissions and, where applicable, for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies. Further information are available at www.bmw.de/wltp and at www.dat.de/co2/.
