HP2 Enduro wins Best of Show award Munich. Despite only being
launched in Motorrad dealerships last month, BMW's HP2 Enduro has
already won its first design accolade. The newest addition to the 2005
model line-up was voted Best of Show by a selection of the world's top
motorcycle designers at the "Mondial du Deux Roues" show in
Paris, France. The HP2 Enduro fought off tough competition to take the
award, which took into account innovation, clarity of concept and the
integration of bodywork with mechanical components, as well as overall
aesthetic appeal. Among the contenders were eight other short-listed
bikes including Kawasaki's EN-6, Triumph's Daytona 675 and the Yamaha
R6, but it was the HP2 that captured the imagination of the Motorcycle
Design Association (MDA) and claimed top spot. MDA co-founder and
President Glynn Kerr praised the HP2 Enduro, saying it was "a
strong statement that is almost Ducati-like in its minimalism and yet
still every bit a BMW. It's the perfect example of how less can mean
more." The 105 hp HP2 was launched to critical press acclaim last
June and is currently the most powerful road legal, twin-cylinder
enduro bike available. However, it is the machine's revolutionary and
unique combination of design and engineering characteristics that
helped it take the top prize in Paris. These design features include
BMW's new Air Damping System - a totally new development for production
motorcycles. The HP2's rear shock absorber has no spring and no oil,
and instead uses an air pressure system to control the rear suspension.
This gives the HP2 rider fantastic feedback and stability with almost
no maintenance. Other innovations include a detachable number plate
mount and a spirit level built into the frame to allow the suspension to
be adjusted perfectly every time. The HP2 Enduro will be exhibited at
all forthcoming major European motorcycle shows including the
International Motorcycle and Scooter show in Birmingham (October 29 -
November 6); International Motorcycle Exhibition in Milan (November 16
- 20) and the 84th European Motorshow in Brussels (January 12- 22).
