Munich. Innovative design and outstanding functionality are a priority
at BMW - and that applies to our smaller customers too. The BMW Cruise
Bike Junior is specially designed for 6 to 9 year old children. This
dynamic bike with 20" wheels combines exceptional style in the
distinctive BMW look with sturdy technology, durability, eye-catching
design and high-quality safety features. As a result of this successful
combination, the BMW Cruise Bike Junior has now received the
prestigious red dot award: product design. The international jury of
the red dot award evaluates the submitted products according to various
criteria such as innovation, functionality, quality of form and
ergonomics. In the case of the Cruise Bike Junior, for example, the
seat-tube angle is designed so that the geometry of the frame is always
ideally suited to the size of the child. The span of the brake levers
can be adjusted, and a specially adapted suspension fork and 3 hub
gears with a twist shifter provide optimum control and riding comfort
for young cyclists. Gear changing and applying the rim brakes is easy
and requires only a minimum of force. Front and rear reflectors, tyres
with reflective strips and pedals with light-emitting diodes offer the
best safety protection. The unique design of this high-quality kid's
bike has caused quite a stir too. The Cruise Bike Junior bears a very
close resemblance to its "grown-up" counterparts and its
dynamic styling and proportions are impressive and in keeping with the
design style of the BMW brand. Featuring the categories red dot award:
product design, red dot award: communication design and red dot award:
design concept, the red dot design award is one of the leading and
largest design competitions in the world with 6,000 annual entries.
Every year since 1955, the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen
has been singling out products of outstanding design quality and
officially recognising these achievements in a special exhibition. A
total of 2,548 entries from 43 nations were submitted for the red dot
award: product design in 2007. BMW received the prestigious award
last year for the BMW Cruise Bike and BMW Kids' Bike. Both bikes also
won the renowned iF product design award 2006. And as if that's not
enough, the BMW Cruise Bike also convinced the ten-person international
jury of the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany 2007 and
was elected the winner in the "Cars and Two-wheelers"
category. This makes the BMW Cruise Bike one of 25 winners out of the
900 design objects nominated for the 2007 Design Award. The awards
ceremony for the red dot award: product design 2007 is to take place on
June 25th in the Essen Opera House. The BMW Cruise Bike Junior will be
available from May 10th, 2007 from selected BMW partners and from the
BMW Online Shop at www.bmw-shop.com. High resolution photographic
