Munich. Josef Haberl, head of BMW Group vehicle safety and
internationally recognised specialist in this field, has been honoured
with a very exceptional award shortly before his retirement. Haberl was
the first person to be presented with the so-called Top Safety Pick
award by the American Insurance Institute For Highway Safety (IIHS) -
an institute comparable with the European EuroNCAP organisation. This
prize is normally awarded to vehicles if they achieve five star status -
i.e. maximum points - for their positive characteristics in terms of
passive safety. Now, for the first time, a person has received this
prize - Josef Haberl. Adrian Lund, President of IIHS (on the right on
the enclosed photo), presented this special trophy to the BMW
specialist at the Vehicle Research Center in Ruckersville/Virginia.
