Specific improvements on the fairing, the windshield and instruments, as well as at the rear, give the new models an even more striking and powerful appearance, although their basic design remains unchanged. New colours, in turn, add to this appeal, as do a series of new features and innovations in the wide range of optional extras and special equipment available.
Engine
Introduction of dual ignition comes together with a new system of engine management: BMS-C II (BMW Motor System), which offers a considerable enhancement in capacity, as well as software, with a wider range of functions. The result of this improved technology is a significant decrease in exhaust emissions, a further improvement of riding comfort and engine response, as well as a reduction of fuel consumption.
The improvement of fuel economy over the former model, already acknowledged for its very low fuel consumption, is between six percent (3.2 litres/ 100km at a steady 90 km/ hour) and 14 percent (4.3 litres/ 100 km at a steady 120 km /hour). Peak output and torque remain the same, but with maximum torque now coming as a further advantage at a lower engine speed.
