Midrand. In a surprise visit to South Africa, 2012 and 2013 MINI ALL4 Racing Dakar Rally champion, Stéphane Peterhansel, attended MINI South Africa’s National launch of the new John Cooper Works (JCW) GP and John Cooper Works Countryman. Surprising local media at Gerotek in Pretoria, Peterhansel showcased skills of speed, precision and extreme motorsport performance in his Dakar Rally race car.
The launch provided media with an opportunity to experience the latest MINI JCW models on a route that began at the Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg, and ended at Gerotek, West of Pretoria. “Media and guests were offered an exclusive opportunity to witness the dynamic skills of Stéphane Peterhansel from inside his Dakar Rally race car and review the vehicle in person,” said Guy Kilfoil, General Manager: Group Communications & Public Affairs of BMW South Africa.
“Having won first place in the MINI ALL4 Racing for the second consecutive year was a wonderful achievement for the Monster Energy X Raid team,” said Peterhansel. “It’s a fantastic vehicle and I am very happy that I could be here to illustrate the quality and performance that MINI offers.”
At the media launch, Team Castrol MINI John Cooper Works drivers, Gavin Cronje and Lee Thompson, also took media for a few laps in their race cars at Gerotek's dynamic handling track.
