Midrand. As from May 2013, BMW South Africa will offer customers an even more diverse line-up in the BMW 3 Series sedan model range. The selection of petrol engines available for the BMW 3 Series sedan will now stretch from the new entry-level BMW 316i sedan all the way to the flagship model, the BMW 335i.
The new BMW 316i sedan entry-level petrol engine is powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and develops 100 kW of power as well as 220 Nm of torque. The engine teams up with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, but an eight-speed automatic can also be ordered as an option. The new BMW 316i sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds (automatic: 9.2 seconds). Its average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle stands at 5.8 litres per 100 kilometres (automatic: 6.2l/100km), while CO2 emissions come in at 134g/km, depending on the tyre format fitted.
With a starting price of R341 000, a choice of design lines such as Luxury, Modern, Sport, the M Sport Package and other features, the BMW 316i offers the kind of comfort, safety and dynamic driving experience expected from the BMW 3 Series sedan range.
The BMW 3 Series is the most important volume-produced model by the BMW Group as well as the biggest-selling model in the entire premium segment. At the same time, every generation of the 3 Series Sedan has been built at Plant Rosslyn and since 1999 this plant has been responsible for production for important export markets such as the USA, Canada, Japan, China, Singapore and Australasia to name but a few.
