BMW 7 Series is 2024 South Africa Car of the Year

Midrand. The BMW 7 Series was announced as the 2024 South Africa Car of the Year at a gala event held on 8 May 2024 in Johannesburg. The BMW 7 Series was the category winner in the Luxury category, where it competed against 18 finalists for the overall title.

The 38^th edition of the South African Car of the Year competition, hosted by the South African Guild of Mobility Journalists and main sponsor Old Mutual Insure, was contested across eight categories, with additional honours for the “Motor Enthusiast’s Choice” and the Car of the Year Jurors’ Excellence Award.

The BMW X1, BMW 7 Series and BMW M2 were finalists in – respectively – the Family, Luxury and Performance categories and all three BMWs were awarded category honours on the night. The Jurors’ Excellence Award was also granted to the BMW 7 Series which, according to the organisers recognised the “jurors’ admiration for its exceptional driving experience, vehicle quality and craftsmanship based on the jurors’ input scores”.

BMW Group South Africa CEO Peter van Binsbergen was on hand to collect the awards and said: “Thank you to the Car of the Year jurors and SAMGJ members for this great honour. To us at BMW, the M2 is in the mould of the classical high-performance sports car with compact dimensions, a feat we are pleased the jurors recognised.

“For the BMW 7 Series, though, to be awarded the overall Car of the Year title shows that our signature Sheer Driving Pleasure in the limousine class has not gone unnoticed. We are proud of our seventh Car of the Year title with another 7 Series win!”
