Further Good Results For MINI In Crash Test Ratings
Woodcliff Lake, December 10, 2002, ... The MINI Cooper's crashworthiness
received the top rating of 'Good' and earned the car a 'Best Pick' designation
in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's December frontal offset crash
tests.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's ratings reflect performance in a
40 mph frontal offset crash test into a deformable barrier. Based on the
results of this test, the Institute evaluates the crashworthiness of passenger
vehicles, assigning each vehicle a rating of good, acceptable, marginal, or
poor.
MINI's strong performance comes just weeks after the MINI Cooper earned a 4
star rating in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA)
crash test results.
Jack Pitney, general manager of MINI USA said: "The IIHS tests are further
evidence that the MINI Cooper offers excellent occupant protection. These
results demonstrate that small cars can be engineered to be safe and we are
delighted that all MINIs come equipped with some of the very best technology
the BMW Group has to offer."
