Over $75,000 to be Donated to Children's Charity and California Highway Patrol
Foundation
Woodcliff Lake, NJ - October 3, 2005... A group of 60 motorcyclists, led by
CHIPS TV star Larry Wilcox and Kelly Crawford (son of Broderick Crawford of the
TV series Highway Patrol), will take to the open road for the 15th annual BMW
Charity Ride. The four-day tour, beginning October 6, covers 1,200 miles of
California's and Arizona's most scenic roads and raises funds for the St.
Francis Medical Center Foundation in Lynwood, California and the California
Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation.
The event has a loyal following of corporate executives, attorneys, doctors and
entertainment moguls who ride together each year to raise money for the
foundations by donating at least $1,000 to participate. BMW Motorrad USA, the
ride's principal sponsor, provides motorcycles and support for the event.
The tour begins at BMW's Western Region Training Center, 1175 S. Dupont Avenue,
Ontario, CA and travels East through Joshua National Park to Lake Havasu, on to
Sedona, Oak Creek Canyon and the Grand Canyon, then returning to Ontario on
Sunday, October 9 via vintage Route 66 and Laughlin, Nevada. Ride marshals
Larry Wilcox and Kelly Crawford will travel in the original and fully restored
California Highway Patrol car, the 1955 Buick that was featured in the "Highway
Patrol series.
The St. Francis Medical Center Foundation serves communities in South Central
Los Angeles. Donations from this year's ride - expected to top $75,000 - will
go to the St. Francis Medical Center's "Footprints" program, which provides
shoes and clothing for hundreds of underprivileged children who otherwise would
be unable to attend school. The California Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation
provides support for families of CHP officers who are lost, injured or disabled
in the line of duty.
