Munich. Having achieved fastest lap time during the one-hour qualifying round of the official MotoGP test, American rider Colin Edwards was presented with a brand new BMW Z4 M Roadster, which is donated by BMW M and known as the BMW M Award. At the end of the 2006 season the MotoGP rider achieving fastest overall time in all qualifying rounds will receive a BMW Z4 M Coupe during the last heat on October 29.

Once again BMW M provides the Safety Cars for all MotoGP Road Racing World
Championship events in 2006.
Munich. Having achieved fastest lap time during the one-hour qualifying round
of the official MotoGP test, American rider Colin Edwards was presented with a
brand new BMW Z4 M Roadster, which is donated by BMW M and known as the BMW M
Award. At the end of the 2006 season the MotoGP rider achieving fastest overall
time in all qualifying rounds will receive a BMW Z4 M Coupe during the last
heat on October 29.
Colin Edwards, who had completed the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona in the
fastest time of 1:57.102 minutes on wet tarmac, was pleased with the attractive
prize, which was presented to him by Ulrich Mehring, head of sales and
marketing at BMW M. "I believe that this is exactly the kind of motivation I
need for this season".
However, it is not only the BMW M Award to which BMW M is committed during the
2006 MotoGP season. The Munich-based high-performance car builder is also
supplying the Safety Cars, a BMW M5 and a BMW M6 each sporting a 507 bhp power
unit. In addition, BMW is also providing all organisational vehicles required
for the MotoGP.
