Munich/Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The BMW Motorrad Biker Meeting attracts them
all. Once again approximately 30,000 visitors came from July 7th to 9th to
Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Guests from more than 40 countries, including a number
of BMW Clubs, celebrated together with BMW Motorrad and really enjoyed
themselves in spite of the mixed weather.
For many visitors one of the program highlights was the spectacular Streetbike
Freestyle Show with Chris Pfeiffer, the new European Stunt Champion on an F 800
S. Among his tricks are no-hands wheelie circles with 230° turnaround at the
end. The impressive off-road show on the "Hausberg" slope by Chris Pfeiffer and
Simo Kirssi, the Finish BMW factory rider, on an HP2 Enduro also proved to be a
real crowd puller. Both professional riders thrilled spectators with their
fabulous skills and demonstrated the outstanding capabilities of the HP2.
A lot of attention was also focussed on a new motorcycle. At the Biker Meeting
the R 1200 R, a roadster with larger displacement and higher performance than
its predecessor, was presented to the public for the first time. And there was
even a raffle drawing in which one lucky visitor won the new machine.
A real biker naturally rides to such a meeting on his bike and so the Biker
Meeting provided several opportunities for owners to show off their bikes. On
Saturday more than 800 riders took part in the 150 km motorcycle parade through
Austria. The classic parade on Sunday was made up of 100 historic motorcycles
and their appropriately dressed riders.
On Saturday evening it was time again for the biker party in the BMW Motorrad
tent. The "Blechblos'n" band really got the crowd hopping. Swinging hips could
be seen on the Salsa Night with the Cuban Band "A Buena Vista" in the
Travelpoint tent.
Pieter de Waal, head of sales and marketing, commented on the meeting: "The
Biker Meeting is an opportunity for us to give something back to our customers
and to the friends of the brand. We can express our thanks for the trust they
place in us. On these three days everyone, the staff, the management and the
guests celebrate together."
Such a large-scale event requires a lot of manpower and logistics. The core
organisation team consisted of 7 people. They spent around six months planning
and preparing the event. Approximately 350 staff worked at the Biker Meeting
itself, 100 of whom came directly from BMW Motorrad. The others came from about
30 companies. A further 30 partners also took part in the individual exhibition
tents.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen also made a great effort. For example the area in front
of the exhibition tent was surfaced with asphalt especially for Chris Pfeiffer'
s Streetbike Freestyle Show. On the facing mountain ridge, torches were lit at
night - just for the visitors of the Biker Meeting.
The party will continue next year - from 6-8 July, 2007 BMW Motorrad will
celebrate the 7th International Biker Meeting in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
