WOODCLIFF LAKE, NEW JERSEY, March 3, 1999... BMW of North America, Inc. outsold
all international and domestic luxury passenger car competitors in year-to-date
sales, reporting an increase of 13.8 percent, to 21,281 vehicles, compared to
18,700 a year ago.
BMW also reported February sales of 11,146, compared to 9,662 automobiles sold
during the same period last month, an increase of 15.3 percent.
Strong sales of the new BMW 3 Series models, the 323i and the 328i, fueled an
increase of 38.4 percent in 3 Series sales for the month. Also worth noting is
a 23.4 percent increase in BMW 7 series models.
Land Rover North America, Inc. reported impressive February sales of 2,212
vehicles, compared to 1,284 a year ago, an increase of 72.3 percent.
Year-to-date sales jumped 54.4 percent, to 4,002 vehicles. Land Rover reported
year-to-date sales of 2,591 a year ago.
Consolidated February sales for the two companies jumped 22 percent to 13,358
units (BMW: 11,146; Land Rover: 2,212) and consolidated year-to-date sales
increased 18.7 percent to 25,283 vehicles (BMW: 21,281; Land Rover 4,002).
