After piloting his 2008 Husqvarna CR 125 to a second place finish in the Open Mag Class in the seventh round of the AMA National Hare and Hound Series, Californian John Kearney has accumulated enough points to claim the AMA National Hare and Hound Championship.

John Kearney Captures Open Mag Class on Husky CR 125
Woodcliff Lake, NJ - August 26, 2008... After piloting his 2008 Husqvarna CR
125 to a second place finish in the Open Mag Class in the seventh round of the
AMA National Hare and Hound Series, Californian John Kearney has accumulated
enough points to claim the AMA National Hare and Hound Championship.
"Beating the open four strokes on a 125 is like icing on the cake," said
Kearney, after securing the championship in the seventh round in Wendover,
Nevada. "After 30 years of riding the best four strokes money can buy, I'm
having the time of my life riding my little 125. Through mountains, trees,
sand dunes and rocks, this two-stroke consistently enabled me to finish on the
podium in every race I entered this year."
Kearney's love affair with the CR 125 began a bit fortuitously in January when
his Husky 510 was broken.
"I picked up my son's 2006 125 and it was awesome," recalled Kearney. "It was
so light, yet it had more than enough power because of its six gears. I felt
as if I were cheating. It was too good to be true."
"I raced below sea level in the sand dunes at the El Centro race near Mexico to
elevations of over 6,000 feet in the trees in Utah and never changed a thing on
the bike except for the FBF suspension," Kearney added.
The 2008 CR 125 Kearney rode in the seventh round was completely stock.
"I never touched the jetting or motor gearing," Kearney pointed out. "All I
plan to do now is to get the suspension dialed for me."
As a member of the club hosting Round 8 of the AMA National Hare and Hound
Series, October 26 in Lucerne Valley, CA, Kearney will be designing the course
rather than riding it. As for his winning 2008 CR 125, it will be proudly
displayed for all to admire.
"Who would have thought," observed Kearney, "that at 50-plus years old, I'd be
riding my kid's bike, winning money and getting congratulatory letters from the
president of Husqvarna. Somebody better pinch me."
