Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, April, 19th, 2000... With the introduction of the
2001 Model Year 7 Series, BMW becomes the first manufacturer to offer a fully
integrated digital portable phone as standard equipment in a prestige luxury
sedan. It will include BMW's Mayday function.
The BMW CPT 7000, which is based on the Motorola StarTAC digital phone, will be
standard equipment in all 2001 model 7 Series. The CPT 7000 is fully integrated
with the 7 Series' electronic systems, offering drivers several advanced
features, including:
* Multi-function dashboard and steering wheel control. Drivers can make calls
by pressing buttons on the in-dash display and/or the steering wheel.
* Memory synchronicity, which allows phone book and other data to automatically
upload from the phone into the vehicle's audio system display.
* Integration with radio that helps to reduce distraction by automatically
muting the radio and pausing the CD or cassette player when a call is sent or
received.
The new phone includes BMW's Mayday function which will enable the driver to
call for help through the standard On-Board Navigation System.
"BMW customers are some of the first people in the world to experience a fully
integrated in-vehicle digital cellular phone," said Hans Duenzl, Vice
President, Aftersales and Engineering, BMW of North America, Inc. "Our
customers consistently ask us to deliver the latest technologies and, by
offering the CPT 7000 phone, we continue to meet their demands."
