Spartanburg, South Carolina, April 17, 2001...On-the-go moms are always on the
road, often shuttling around their most precious cargo. With this in mind, BMW
has added a number of one-day Womens-Only Car Control Clinics to the curriculum
at the BMW Performance Center Driving School - just in time for Mother's Day
gift-giving.
The curriculum is similar to BMW's popular day-long Car Control Clinics
however, according to Tom Troy, Manager of the BMW Performance Center, the
experience is very different.
"Women-only clinics are not only attended by women but are also taught by
women, all of whom are accomplished professional drivers," says Troy. "This
course is custom designed to give women driving skills that will add to their
own safety and the safety of their families."
The Women-Only course, with multiple dates in 2001, emphasizes avoidance
maneuvers, vehicle control and driver awareness. Class size is limited to 12
participants.
Teaching is done both in the classroom and in BMW 3 Series sedans on the BMW
Performance Center's purpose-built driving course.
"Our curriculum emphasizes skills to respond to a wide variety of driving
situations not found in most driver training programs," says Troy. "For
example, students learn how to control a vehicle on an ultra-smooth concrete
skidpad, which produces a slippery surface that simulates "black ice."
Accident avoidance maneuvers are taught on a water wall corridor - one of only
a few in the world - where they are "surprised" when obstacles "appear" in
front of their moving vehicles. An emergency braking zone gives students the
opportunity to learn the relationship between speed and stopping distance and
how to brake with an ABS equipped vehicle on both wet and dry surfaces."
BMW's Performance Center, home of the BMW Performance Center Driving School,
opened last year to expand the unique automotive experience BMW offers in
upstate South Carolina. At one location, a visitor can tour a $1.6 billion
state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, browse the Zentrum museum showcasing
more than 75 years of BMW automotive and motorcycle history, and enroll in one
of several driving instruction programs.
The cost of a one-day Women-Only Car Control Clinic at the BMW Performance
Center is $495. To sign up for any BMW Performance Center program, simply call
