Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, March 13, 2002...The BMW X5 Sports Activity Vehicle
was selected by Money Magazine as a "Best Buy" in the SUV category. The BMW X5
is practical, provides good value for the money and is good looking and fun to
drive, according to research performed by Money Magazine, which shows that the
BMW X5 delivers the best combination of value and performance in that category.
"The X5 is one great-driving luxe machine. With its super-sensitive power
steering and traction control, it drives like, well, a BMW" according to Jerry
Edgerton for Money Magazine. The BMW X5 delivers this top performance in a very
safe package, which received the top rating among mid-size sport utilities in
crash tests staged by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and the best
results of any vehicle ever tested by the IIHS in a 40 mph offset crash test.
It is no wonder therefore, that the X5 has been selling well, with 2001 retail
sales of 40,622, a whopping 52 percent increase over 2000. And, 2002 sales have
already increased by 3.8 percent over same period sales in 2001.
The newest X5 model to join the X5 3.0i and the X5 4.4i is the 2002 X5 4.6is,
which sports a 4.6L V-8 engine producing 340 hp at 5700 rpm and 324 lb-ft. of
torque at only 3700 rpm. These ratings put the X5 4.6is in the very top class
of SUV performance with a 0-60 mph time of just 6.2 sec.
All three X5 models are produced exclusively at BMW's Spartanburg, South
Carolina assembly plant, alongside the Z3 roadster.
