Two-Day Adventure Satisfies Passion for High Performance Driving on the Golf
Course and Behind the Wheel of a BMW
SPARTANBURG, SC - August 25, 2005... The BMW Performance Center is offering a
new driving adventure for enthusiasts who want to improve their skills behind
the wheel and lower their golf handicap with PGA champions while vacationing in
the Carolinas. The new Drive Fore Drive program is scheduled for September
25-27 with PGA champion Matt Kuchar, and the November 3-5 program will feature
PGA champion Dave Edwards.
"It's the ideal driving vacation for indulging in two favorite passions: high
performance golf and high performance driving," says Diane Nevelle, driving
school manager at the BMW Performance Center. "After participants take on the
driving challenges of our professional course, they will drive through the Blue
Ridge Mountains to test their wedges and long irons on an exquisite golf course
in the breathtaking back woods of the Carolinas."
Participants arrive in Spartanburg, S.C., the evening before the first day of
driving and stay at a local luxury hotel. The next day - or opening round - of
Drive Fore Drive starts at the BMW Performance Center. Professional
instructors will teach advanced car control techniques such as braking,
cornering and accelerating on the wet skid pad, the autocross and other
sections of the driving course. Instructors will integrate golf analogies and
terminology as drivers improve their driving "handicaps."
Participants will then drive through the Blue Ridge Mountains in a variety of
BMW models, including the Z4 and X5 that are made in South Carolina, practicing
the driving techniques they learned earlier that day. Later that evening,
enthusiasts can relax and unwind as they are treated to a champagne cruise and
gourmet dinner during an overnight stay at an historic inn nestled on the
private, 164-acre Lake Toxaway.
The second round of Drive Fore Drive will feature more driving lessons - only
this round will be on the golf course. Participants will warm up on the
driving range with a PGA champion and then tee off on an 18-hole, par-71 course
that winds 6,234 yards from blue tees through mountainous terrain.
The challenging, picturesque course is filled with narrow fairways and
elevation changes that demand pinpoint accuracy. The famous Mills Creek Falls,
which tumbles 750 feet down the face of the Toxaway Mountain, is almost in line
with the drive at the 13th hole. Then it's back behind the wheel for a drive
from the fairway to the BMW Performance Center.
Drive Fore Drive is open to all licensed drivers. The cost is $2,650 for two
participants and includes several meals and accommodations for two nights. The
maximum participant number is 30. To enroll or find out more information, call
the BMW Performance Center at 888-345-4BMW (4269).
