MINI Racers Show Competitive Advantage, Taking Top Spots in Multiple Classes
Woodcliff Lake, NJ - October 6, 2005... MINIs showed off their competitive
streak with multiple wins at several of SCCA's high profile national
championship events at the close of September. Most recently MINIs took honors
at the SCCA Solo National Championships in Topeka Kansas and the SCCA National
Championship Runoffs at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
MINIs Excel in Solo National Championship
MINIs dominated in the G Stock and H Stock events as well as in the respective
Ladies Class. In G Stock, the MINI Cooper S took the top eight spots, with
MINIs representing 25 out of a total of 44 cars on the grid. Mark Chiles of
Mount Joy, PA, Brian Garfield of Mt. Airy, MD and Anthony Savini of
Cochranville, PA walked away with first, second and third place respectively.
MINI Cooper S competitors represented the entire field of eight cars in G Stock
Ladies with the top three respective wins going to Angie Rogers of Granger, IN,
Beth McClure-Strel of Austin, TX and Mary Medicus of Lafayette, CO.
In H Stock, the grid read like a MINI dealer's fantasy inventory with 23 out of
the total 27 competitors competing in a MINI Cooper. First place went to
Karter Bollmann of Friendswood, TX. Alan McCrispin of Huntsville AL, took
second place with Patrick Washburn of Wausau WI capturing third. A field of
five MINI Coopers represented all the competitors of H Stock Ladies Class with
Donna Cate Frank of Durham, NC winning first place, Kristi Brown of Des Moines,
WA getting second place and Carol Leuty rounding out third place.
MINIs Take First and Third in Showroom Stock C at Mid-Ohio
MINI also made an impressive showing at the 2005 SCCA National Championship
Runoffs. Pete Taylor, of Ortonville, MI, captured his first National
Championship, taking the Showroom Stock C class win in his 2005 MINI Cooper S
at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with the MINI Cooper S of Joel Lipperini, of
Pittston, PA coming in third.
Commencing the final day of the 2005 Runoffs, Taylor led the 39-car field to
the green flag. Throughout the race Taylor and his MINI Cooper S held the lead
in front of the second place finisher, Ryan Ciechanski in a Honda Civic.
Racing nose-to-tail, Taylor and Ciechanski pulled several car lengths from the
third place finishing MINI Cooper S of Lipperini.
Getting quicker every lap, and setting a new lap record in the process,
Taylor's MINI Cooper S steadily pulled away from Ciechanski's Honda as the race
progressed. Running fast, error-free laps to the checkered flag, Taylor led
flag-to-flag, capturing his first Showroom Stock C National Championship by
0.452 seconds.
"I had been driving Dodge Neon's for the last three years, but I bought my MINI
two weeks before the SCCA Runoff's to run it in the Showroom Stock C
competition," said Pete Taylor. "The MINI is an exceptional car and I think
the best car for the class. It truly handles like a full-sized like go-cart."
"The first time I drove the car was the day before the first official practice
for the Runoffs." Pete Taylor continued, "I found the car turned in very well
and would go where I pointed it. I can't put into words how much fun this car
is to drive and I look forward to capture another championship with my MINI in
2006."
"It is fantastic to see MINIs dominate in this kind of motorsport competition",
Said Jeff Stracco, MINI Product Manager. Not only is it a testament to MINI's
go-kart like reflexes, but it is also clear MINI is a very attainable compact
sports car for the competitive enthusiast."
