"We've made every effort to ensure that our vehicles represent value over the
long term and so it is with great pride that we accept these awards," explained
BMW of North America president Victor Doolan.
To determine BOVY winners, IntelliChoice analysts examined the projected
five-year ownership costs of vehicles from 1999, specifically looking at
depreciation, maintenance, repairs, insurance, fuel, financing and state fees.
The 1999 winners represent the best relationship between ownership costs and
purchase price, and therefore, are considered best overall values for consumers.
BMW has been working to ensure that value, along with quality and performance,
are intrinsic to the BMW ownership experience. Scheduled Maintenance for three
years or 36,000 miles is included in the cost of every new BMW. BMW's new car
warranty includes Roadside Assistance for the full four-year, 50,000 mile
warranty period.
Technology enhancements such as BMW's Service Interval Indicator allows for
extended service intervals. Rather than using fixed intervals, the Service
Interval indicator monitors how the car is driven to calculate a range of up to
15,000 miles between oil services. Lifetime transmission fluid and 100,000
mile spark plugs also reduce operating costs on every BMW.
BMW has been successful in increasing value by adding more comfort and safety
features while holding down prices. At $26,970, the 323i sedan is BMW's first
six-cylinder sedan under $30,000 since 1992. The car also comes equipped with
available safety features such as BMW's Head Protection System, front and rear
side impact airbags and Xenon headlights.
BMW's efforts to lower the cost of ownership have reaped benefits to the
consumer through increased resale value - a major factor in determining a BOVY
winner. According to IntelliChoice, the resale value across BMW's full model
line has increased by 4% over the last four years.
BMW entered the North American market in 1975. Since then, the company has
grown to include marketing, sales and financial service organizations in the
United States and Canada; a South Carolina manufacturing operation; a design
firm in California; a technology office in Silicon Valley; and various other
BMW operations throughout the U.S. and Canada. BMW is represented in North
America through a network of more than 375 automobile and 190 motorcycle
retailers in the United States and Canada. BMW (US) Holding Corp., the
marque's North American headquarters, is located in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey.
