WOODCLIFF LAKE, NJ, APRIL 17, 2000...BMW and the National Safety Council have
joined together to present the Safe Driving Guide - a handbook of safe driving
tips available free-of-charge to motorists nationwide.
"As an industry leader in safety technology, BMW's affiliation with the
National Safety Council reflects the company's philosophy to provide an
environment where the driver is in control," commented Bill Pettit, BMW's
Market Research Manager. The Safe Driving Guide was created to serve as a
tool to enhance drivers' knowledge on a wide range of safety and technology
issues. Topics such as seat belt usage and defensive driving help to reinforce
active safety measures. Information about industry advances including front
and side airbags and head protection systems, draw attention to life-saving
technologies embraced by the automotive industry. Other current subjects such
as cellular phone safety and tips on seasonal driving serve to further increase
driver awareness on the road.
BMW's affiliation with the National Safety Council is a natural extension of
the company's mission to educate consumers about current safety issues and
technologies in the automotive industry. Programs geared to teens like The
Ultimate Driving Experience's Student Driver Program, teach new drivers
valuable road safety basics including acceleration, braking, cornering and seat
belt safety. While BMW's Baby Car Seat Campaign addresses the urgency to
properly secure infants in car seats.
"The National Safety Council has pledged to educate the public on a myriad of
safety issues. Alarming statistics continually remind us every year of the
tragedies on the road. We are honored to align with an industry leader such as
BMW to address active and passive safety measures to increase road safety,"
stated Chuck Hurley, Executive Director of the Highway Safety Group, National
Safety Council, Hasca, IL. The National Safety Council is a not-for-profit,
non-governmental, international public service organization dedicated to
preventing unintentional injuries. Learn more about the National Safety
Council at it's web site: http://www.nsc.org. People interested in obtaining
