Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey...Building on the most successful lineup in its
history, BMW marks 2001 by offering several special edition models, each
offering a unique twist to the company's class-leading collection of singles,
twins and fours. Whether it's a sport-touring rider looking to bevel her boot
toes, or a cruiser enthusiast looking to cure his wanderlust, this year's
stable offers something uniquely suitable--and uniquely BMW.

Last year's stunning variation on BMW's R 1200 C, the Euro, is joined by a
brace of new special editions, the Montana and Phoenix. The Montana adds a host
of touring accessories to the basic R 1200 C, including a full windshield,
standard saddlebags, heated handgrips, engine protection bars and large
passenger seat. Heading in a different direction, the Phoenix adds a "jet"
windscreen, two-tone, Graphite and Mandarin paint, night-piercing halogen
driving lights and standard BBS light alloy wheels. Of course, triple disc
brakes, Telelever front suspension, leather seat and the lusty, 1185 cc
flat-twin make these bikes standouts in the cruiser field, while standard ABS
ensures these models will remain as unique functionally as they are visually.

The original R 1200 C returns as a the genuine article in a class dominated by
"custom" pretenders. The R-C's mix of ABS-equipped triple discs, Telelever
front suspension, Monolever swingarm, and fuel-injected 1170 cc Boxer-twin make
it a performance standout as well as a unique study in polished and pinstriped
perfection. Also returning for 2001, the R 1200 C Euro takes the cruiser
benchmark set by the R 1200 C a step further with blacked-out drivetrain,
minimal chrome highlights, and a deep graphite finish for major components. The
dark, all-business look of the R 1200 C Euro includes a small sporty
windscreen, engine protection bars, halogen driving lights and a handlebar
riser capped by pullback handlebars.

Last year's other newcomer, the F 650 GS, returns for 2001 dressed in optional
Dakar trim to commemorate the single's overwhelming victory in last year's
torturous Paris-Dakar-Cairo rally. With longer-travel suspension, 21-inch front
wheel capped by a revised front fender, handguards and taller F 650 RR
windshield, the Dakar provides both practical and visual benefits for
off-road-minded riders. Of course the GS's basic specifications-652cc, DOHC
4-valve fuel-injected engine, cg-lowering underseat fuel tank, abbreviated
fairing / windshield and optional antilock brakes--give the standard F-GS all
it needs to maintain its place as the most versatile and sophisticated single
on the market.

Moving up a notch, the R 1150 GS remains the definitive heavyweight
adventure-tourer and the best-selling model in its class. Nothing else can
match its combination of torquey, 85-horsepower, 1130 cc Boxer-twin, six-speed
transmission, Light Telelever, high-rise exhaust and striking bodywork,
accented by a pair of asymmetrical headlamps and an adjustable windshield. The
Telelever front and Paralever rear suspensions offer exceptional chassis
control, and the R 1150 GS's triple disc brakes offer standard antilock, which
can be deactivated for off-road travel. And BMW's exclusive, fuel-injected,
eight-valve Boxer engine--with air/oil cooling, automotive-style single-plate
clutch and efficient, lightweight "High-Cam" valve gear-continues to excel,
whether the route is Georgia to North Dakota or Paris to Dakar.

For those who prefer to travel on more predictable surfaces, K 1200 LT returns
as the finest heavyweight tourer in the world, combining outstanding handling
and braking, a class-leading 100-horsepower engine and superlative rider and
passenger accommodations. With its unique combination of Telelever front
suspension, Paralever rear swingarm, five-speed transmission plus reversing
aid, triple-disc antilock brakes, electrically-adjusted windshield, available
heated rider and passenger seats and compact-disc changer, the K 1200 LT offers
an unprecedented level of luxury in the touring class.

At its introduction, the LT won several touring comparisons and quickly
garnered a bevy of awards, including Rider magazine's Bike of the Year for '99
and Cycle World's Best Heavyweight Tourer in 1999 and 2000. Those accolades
helped make the LT--in Standard, Icon or Custom trim--the best-selling BMW in
its first year. New colors mark the LT's model change for 2001, and the
top-of-the-line Custom adds an alarm system, trunk-mounted third taillight and
top-box luggage grid as standard equipment. The Icon and Standard versions now
include pre-wiring for the optional heated seats to complement their standard
heated handgrips.

Travelers looking to compress time and distance even further should consider
the LT's sport-touring sibling, the K 1200 RS. With 130 horses routed through
its six-speed transmission, the sport-touring RS boasts the highest performance
of any BMW motorcycle, while the K 1200 chassis--chill-cast aluminum frame,
rubber engine mounts, Telelever fork and Paralever rear suspension, with
ABS-assisted triple-disc brakes--ensure its conduct as a superb-handling,
vibration-free touring mount. Heated handgrips now cap the RS's standard tall
handlebar mounts.

The R 1100 S provides a twin-cylinder alternative to the K-RS, offering the
most-powerful Boxer-twin in BMW history. The S packs its six-speed,
98-horsepower Boxer-twin into an equally performance-oriented chassis, this
year available with strategically placed carbon-fiber components on the
R 1100 SL. The standard S's Light Telelever, five-spoke wheels, adjustable
front and rear rebound damping, triple-disc brakes and clip-on handlebars
underscore the bike's lofty capabilities, while its striking bodywork,
underseat exhaust and asymmetrical headlamp treatment illustrate that this is
not a bike for the timid. In addition to its lightweight carbon-fiber
treatment, the SL includes short windshield, sport handlebars and sport
suspension with the wider, 5.5-inch rear wheel. Special black-on-black paint
and drivetrain ensure the R 1100 SL will not be mistaken for anything else. As
before, both versions are available with or without antilock brakes.

A choice of 3 colors highlights the R 1100 RT, which returns with saddlebags,
full fairing, electrically adjustable windshield and Rider Information Display
included at no extra cost. Standard ABS, triple-disc brakes, 90-horsepower
Boxer twin engine and adjustable rear rebound damping guarantee that the RT
remains the definitive full-dress tourer, and it will continue to rack up
accolades as quickly as it can rack up miles.

Likewise, the BMW R 1100 RS harkens back to the original R 100 RS, even as it
refines the often misused designation, "sport-tourer." Fully adjustable
ergonomics, standard ABS, sport-touring fairing and the original, five-speed,
90-horsepower R259 Boxer-twin continue to appeal to a dedicated cadre of
touring riders who count their days not by the number of miles covered, but by
the number of apexes clipped.

Likewise, the R 1100 R still demonstrates the exceptional competence of the
basic R259 chassis for those minimalist motorcyclists. With a torquey,
80-horsepower version of the fuel-injected Boxer-twin, triple-disc brakes,
Telelever fork, Paralever rear suspension and standard saddlebag mounts, the R
1100 R stretches the definition of a standard motorcycle. For 2001, the
"roadster" is available in a special edition which includes chrome valve covers
and wire wheels, dressed in classic Night Black paintwork with white
pinstriping.
