Munich, Germany. March 26, 2001. Thrilling racing action, throaty four-stroke
engine sound and raving fans will feature at the "International BMW BoxerCup
2001" which is part of seven top-ranking racing events to be held this year
between April and September. The ranked races will take place again in the
Motorbike Grand Prix setting: on 2 June at the MotoGP of Italy in Mugello, on
16 June at the MotoGP of Catalonia in Barcelona and on 21 July at the MotoGP of
Germany on the Sachsenring.

The flat-twin Boxer riders will race four times at Endurance world cup races:
on 14 April at the 24 hours of Le Mans (France), on 14 July at the 24 hour race
in Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), on 11 August at the Speedweek in Oschersleben
(Germany) and on 15 September at he Bol d'Or in Magny Cours (France).

Following the great success of the BMW BoxerCup in 1999 and 2000 where the 36
starters were almost exclusively of French or Belgian origin, the 2001
competition will feature international participation. The races will be carried
out once again on near-series-production, 100 bhp R 1100 S 2-cylinder flat-twin
Boxer bikes which generate the specific throaty four-stroke sound thanks to a
special muffler. In total 225,000 euros of prize money are there to be won. In
addition the overall winner can look forward to a BMW Z3, the runner-up will
receive a BMW R 1150 R and the third-placed rider a BMW C1.

The four-fold vice world champion in the 500 cm3 class, Randy Mamola from the
United States will again function as "ambassador" at the "International BMW
BoxerCup 2001" and like other VIP guests such as the Italian three-fold world
champion Luca Cadaloro will take part in one or the other race. The TV station
Eurosport will report on the BoxerCup races as it did last year too.

In the context of the BMW International BoxerCup 2001 BMW offers a fan
collection consisting of fan jacket, jersey shirt, t-Shirt, scarf and cap. All
articles can be purchased at BMW dealers or race tracks at the BMW
Merchandising Stand.
