BMW Group Design Teams Receive Award for Top Design Quality

With a top position in this year's Ranking Design, design.net AG has again confirmed the BMW Group's leading position in the area of product and industrial design.
Munich. With a top position in this year's Ranking Design, design.net AG has
again confirmed the BMW Group's leading position in the area of product and
industrial design. The design studios of the Munich-based car maker clearly put
themselves ahead of their competitors in this interdisciplinary ranking contest.
Ranking Design published annually by design.net AG in Germany is now in its
fifth year and has established itself as an independent benchmark for
internationally acknowledged design competence. It provides an overview of
design competence in Germany and pays tribute to outstanding achievements of
design-oriented manufacturers and industrial designers.
Ranking Design 2001/2002 is based on the evaluation of 19 design contests
organized at the federal and state levels with the participation of numerous
German and foreign companies. The definition of ten product groups makes the
results mutually comparable and demonstrates the design competence of the
award-winning companies and design teams.
The ranking of the best designers and manufacturers results from the prizes and
standings of the key German competitors, with different weightings of the
importance of the individual contests. A Ranking Design award is therefore not
related to single products but pays tribute to successful design work of the
past year.
The top rankings of the BMW Group in this year's rating testify to the fact
that the work of the design teams reflects the highest standards on an
international scale. Awards were presented not only for vehicles but for the
whole bandwidth of products created in the design studios of the BMW Group.
In this Ranking Design contest, the BMW Group finished first in the category of
"transportation and special-purpose vehicles". The company won the award for
top design quality as the best manufacturer and asserted itself against German
competitors in the automotive industry.
Second place for the best industrial design in the "leisure, sports and games"
category proves that the BMW Group's designers place the same stringent demands
on the design of boutique and lifestyle products as on cars and motorcycles.
Its success in the Ranking Design contest testifies to the precision of the BMW
Group's design strategy. The company systematically uses design as a business
factor, which ultimately guarantees sustained economic success.
