BMW X5: "Best-looking" and "Most Fun-to-drive" Vehicle In Its Class Is Even
More Appealing for 2003

Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, November 15, 2002... Right from its introduction in
2000, the BMW X5 was destined to transform expectations of what a sport-utility
vehicle could be and do. Indeed, the very combination of "BMW" and "SUV" seemed
unlikely at first. Yet now, in retrospect, it's clear that there was no
conflict between BMW and SUV. Instead, BMW had simply done what one would
expect BMW to do: create the BMW of SUVs. A vehicle so unique it demanded its
own designation - Sports Activity Vehicle.

Critics and customers alike immediately recognized the validity of BMW's
concept, and have continued to do so through the X5's first three model years
(2000-2002). Among the more recent accolades from critics:

"This is still by far the best-looking SUV on the market and the most fun to
drive," concluded Car and Driver in April '02 after a 40,000-mile Long-Term
Test of the X5 4.4i. Other observations from this report included:

- "The X5 became a favorite winter highway cruiser because of its strong
engine, reassuring grip, and comfortable leather-clad seats."

- "The rear seats were judged to be comfortable by adults. Parents liked it
that belted-in kids at either end of the bench couldn't quite reach each other."

- "The suspension is great on dirt roads."

- "Plenty of room for us and the supplies for our tailgate party before the
concert. We were almost as cool as [Rod Stewart]."

Or Automobile Magazine, in its own 12-Month Report, March '02:

- "Even with the 1972 BMW 2002tii riding piggyback [on a trailer], the X5
maintained 80 mph without breaking a sweat...If it weren't for the 2002 in the
rear-view, I could forget we were pulling anything.

- "The full-time four-wheel-drive system and brake-based four-wheel traction
control pulled the X5 through even the foulest storms."

- "The X5 also proved to be well built. Even after 36,966 miles, the interior
showed little wear or tear, and nary a creak or rattle was heard."

Customers also continue to vote for the X5. In the first nine months of '02,
BMW delivered 31,135 X5s in the U.S., more than 9% over the '01 sales pace,
which in turn saw a 52% increase from the X5's first calendar year.

In 2002, the X5 Series added a third model, the top-performing 4.6is, plus a
significant round of product improvements and an expanded range of available
options. Now, for 2003, the Series enjoys further evolution. The three models,
whose production at BMW's Spartanburg, South Carolina began in October,
continue:

X5 3.0i - 6-cylinder, 225-hp model, available with manual or automatic
transmission, at $40,195 including destination charge.

X5 4.4i - the original V-8 model, starting at $50,645.

X5 4.6is - the super-performance X5, at $67,495.

The Evolution Continues: What's New for 2003

All three X5 models share in a round of evolutionary updates and enhancements
for '03:

- Adaptive brakelights. Along with the 7 Series and Z4, all '03 X5s add this
important new feature. Under hard braking, the brakelights illuminate more
intensely, communicating a critical safety signal to following drivers.

-Adjustable ride height was introduced in '02 as an option that allows the
driver to select any of three ride heights for the vehicle. It is now available
on 3.0i and 4.4i models in combination with the Sport Package, which was not
the case in '02.

- The 18-in. tires of the 4.4i Sport Package have been upgraded from H- to
V-rated, and the electronic speed limiter is now deleted with this Package,
lifting top speed from 128 to 143 mph.

- The optional BMW Onboard Navigation System acquires improved functionality
and a DVD database.

- A rear-seat Head Protection System (HPS), formerly optional, is now standard.
Rear side-impact airbags remain optional.

- A new, softer and more luxurious leather grade, called Dakota, replaces the
Montana grade formerly used in 3.0i and 4.4i models.

- A body-color tailgate handle is added to the 3.0i Premium and Sport Packages;
body-color door handles were already part of the Packages.
