Woodcliff Lake, NJ – May 18, 2026 . . . The second round of the MotoAmerica Quad Lock Superbike Championship kicked off on the tight 2.38-mile Barber circuit in Leeds, Alabama this past weekend. No. 40 OrangeCat BMW M 1000 RR rider Sean Dylan Kelly started the weekend by posting the fastest time in Friday’s Free Practice with a 1:23.372. His teammate Jayson Uribe was not far behind in 9th position with a 1:25.163 on his No. 36 BMW M 1000 RR.
The Timed Practice later that day saw Sean Dylan Kelly better his time with a 1:22.908, again capturing top spot. Uribe cut his time to 1:24.181 to move up to 7th during the 40-minute practice session.
Saturday morning’s Qualifying session pushed the pace and Kelly finishing 5th (2nd row start) with a time of 1:23.425 after only one lap. Uribe qualified 10th (4th row) with a lap time of 1:23.989.
Race 1
Barber is tough place to pass but Jayson Uribe still worked his way up two spots to 12th when a crash involving another rider red flagged the race on lap 9. Sean Dylan Kelly was in 6th during the race stop. After the track was cleared, the race restarted with an eight-lap sprint. Kelly would finish 7th and Uribe 12th after the checkered flag waved.
Race 2
The two OrangeCat Racing teammates started Sunday’s Race 2 in the same qualifying positions as Race 1, meaning Kelly starting from Row 2 and Urbine from Row 4. After the first lap, both Kelly and Uribe were running in 7th and 8th consecutively when an incident forced Uribe to the back of the pack resulting in a 16th place finish. Sean Dylan Kelly meanwhile pushed hard and took over 3rd position on Lap 9 of 20 and would not relinquish that position for the remainder of the race.
Sean Dylan Kelly (rider No. 40 OrangeCat BMW M 1000 RR):
"It was a strong start this weekend. I felt great on my BMW M 1000 RR, and finishing P1 on Friday in both sessions was a good indication that we’re working in the right way.
Saturday was a tough day with a big crash in qualifying, but I felt really lucky to walk away from it with minor injuries. We gave our best for Race 2 and I’m really happy to have come away with another podium finish. Really looking forward to showing up stronger at Road America, ready to fight. Thank you so much to OrangeCat Racing Team and BMW Motorrad Motorsport for all the support and hard work throughout the weekend."
Jayson Uribe (rider No. 36 OrangeCat BMW M 1000 RR):
“An unlucky weekend for my side of the garage at Barber. The team did everything right - our pace was good and our race starts were great. Just wound up in the wrong place at the wrong time with being taken out in both races. I qualified a little further back than I wanted in P10, but our speed was right where it needed to be and I felt confident in the BMW M 1000 RR Superbike under me. The whole crew put in the work to give me the tools I needed to get into the top 5, which was proven by our early race position in both races until we were forced out of contention: also a testament to the build quality of the BMW after being hit! Was able to finish race 2 with both handlebars bent, broken bodywork, a broken foot peg, and no rear brake. We’ll be back stronger at Road America. We have the speed, now we just need a little luck.”
Quad Lock Superbike Championship Standings
After two events, Sean Dylan Kelly is in 2nd place with 61 points and Jayson Uribe is 10th with 20 season points.
Mission Super Hooligans
Nate Kern took to the track for the second time with his new ROKiT BMW R 1300 R Superhooligan race bike. Amongst a field of 33 riders, Nate finished 16th in Race 1 and 12th in Race 2 collecting important data on the new machine.
Next Race
The next round, MotoAmerica Superbikes at Road America, takes place in two weeks on May 29-31.
