December 7, 2004, Whitby, Ontario...The BMW X3 Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV)
has been named the 'Best New Sport Utility Vehicle' for 2005 by the Automobile
Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC).
The 2005 BMW X3 SAV was awarded the prestigious title following extensive
real-world driving tests at AJAC's annual Canadian Car of the Year Awards
competition.
"We are extremely pleased that the BMW X3 Sports Activity Vehicle has been
recognized by AJAC as the 'Best New Sport Utility Vehicle' in Canada", stated
Mr. Lindsay Duffield, President & CEO, BMW Group Canada. "Canadians continue
to embrace the BMW line-up of Sports Activity Vehicles as witnessed by strong
2004 sales of the BMW X3 and X5 SAVs."
Built upon the successful theme of the BMW X5, the BMW X3 continues the
tradition of a Sports Activity Vehicle with sport sedan qualities. Offered
with two engine choices, pricing is set at $44,600 for the X3 2.5i and $49,900
for the X3 3.0i.
As is traditional with all new BMW's, groundbreaking technology is featured
prominently in the design. In the case of the X3 the technology that is
featured is xDrive, an all-wheel drive system that allows the driving force or
torque to be distributed variably and infinitely between the front and rear
axles. Without any intervention from the driver xDrive acts proactively to
provide the best possible acceleration, traction and stability at all times and
in all conditions.
BMW's groundbreaking technology, xDrive, featured in the BMW X3, has also been
nominated in the 'Best New Technology' category of AJAC's 2005 Canadian Car of
the Year Awards. The winner of 'Best New Technology' and overall 'Canadian Car
and Truck of the Year' will be announced on February 16, 2005 at the Canadian
International Auto Show in Toronto.
The BMW X3 SAV win at the 2005 AJAC follows a winning tradition as the 2004 BMW
5 Series was awarded the prestigious title of 'Best New Luxury Car' for 2004 by
AJAC and BMW's Active Steering was awarded the 2004 AJAC 'Best New Technology'.
